.....if PG is due for release any time soon ?

I have now uninstalled HB The Golf Club as I have been banned from the forums for trying to highlight issues within the game and responding to questions put by other members, outlining my own experiences within the game. There is no doubt that HB do not like this and so I have packed my bags and am "golfless" for the time being !!

I have become frustrated because I had hoped for a much earlier release for PG but there is no question that they are putting in the time they deem necessary. Even with the HB game, there is still a gaping hole in the online golf market and I feel sure that PG will be filling that void.

Cheers and a Happy New Year to all PP members.

Nothing official, noelw1969. Earliest possible date for early release on Steam is Mid-January. May be a week of two more.

The game will certainly not be finished by then, but in beta with quite many kinks to iron out still. Should you opt to join the early release, your experience and advice will be useful to make Perfect Golf better.

I hate being golfless myself - hang in there.

Many thanks Kablammo.

Early access or otherwise, I cannot wait to get started but as for my input, I have a feeling that they won't need mine.  ;)

The game will be improving for years - I think Mike mentioned once his dream is still to be working on this in 10 years time. Don't worry about not having your input heard.

Guessing about 4 years old. I remember Z40's from early 2011 and the GTX 560 cards were late 2010 early 2011.

I would say you'll be fine. I have a system with the same cpu, 16 GB ram and a GTX 650 (which is very similar in performance to your card).  Depending upon the course I can run HIgh & Ultra High settings and get frame rates of 30+.  One of the neat things with PG is once a course is loaded, if you are running software like FRAPS so you can see the framerate, you can go into the video settings and change them and you will see the framerate change as you turn things on and off or adjust the visual slider settings.  It allows you to tweak each course to ensure good framerates with the best possible visuals.  Unfortunately you can't save the settings on a per course basis.  Hmmm, I think I smell a feature request.  :)

You got banned at HB?
What happened?  Some comment in particular?

I have made many complaints about different issues on HB Golf and they claim to read this stuff and take it on board. I am not normally the best at describing stuff and things I say tend to get misunderstood by some. They got this bloke, HB Lorin, who seems to be lacking in the IQ department and would only ever point members towards tutorials, as if this was going to solve the problem of why a 6yd chip shot would go 23 yds !!

Basically, it is exactly this kind of criticism and possibly the manner of its description that has led them to ban me for trolling and aggressive manner !! Anyone who knows me from TWO will know what I am like. So, having taken a week ban for something that I still don't really don't understand, I got back and started to reply to questions asked by members new to the game or the forum. I can only speak from my own experience and so I did. I believe that HB did not appreciate comments they perceived as negative but the problem is, when the game is full of bad stuff, its hard to be positive.

Ultimately, I firmly believe that HB are being led by a few members who call themselves "purists" and see TGC as a perfect golf sim (which it isn't) and when person A says its bang on and then person B says its wrong, person A is the one who gets listened to and person B is castigated. I am person B and my "bad and negative" influence has now been eliminated for good. Anyone being bad or negative is usually called a "troll" even if they have good intentions !!

In my defence, I am a negative person, a pessimist. I see problems. My argument is that if you cannot see the problem, how can you ever come up with the solution ? If people continue to tell HB just how good that game is, how are they ever going to identify the issues and resolve them ?

Hmmm...I thought this particular forum was setup to discuss PG and not TGC. Maybe PP needs to hire a person full time to moderate the PP forums like they do at the TGC forums.

Or trust in peer review, MERACE, as performed by you... fair point, forum discipline is quite lax here. Also Noelw was asked a direct question, so I think it's only right that he answered it in the same thread.

So let's bring this one back on track. We have a pretty stubborn purist camp in our tester pool as well - they all are very nice guys, though, and there is not one mean bone among all of them. I do believe we have a much more mature debating culture, which might deteriorate come the time of early release. I agree that PP will need some sort of CM by the time early beta goes out, just to keep the feedback orderly and to weed out multiple postings and get rid of trolls.

Noelw, the key to projects such as this is participation. It's about joining the fray and posting comments about things you feel are important, working with others to identify issues, offer opinions on issues others are bringing up - without getting personal or caustic or snarky or petty (I do struggle in this department sometimes, mea culpa). As it stands now, there is not one single person and his views dominating the development process - over in the private forums it's a symphony of views and ideas, debated on their merits, for the makers to have a complete brief based on which they can decide what to do.

Like you, I am a mainly negative guy, a glass-half-empty type of person, who sees the bad things first. Between you and me, our dedicated non-fanboy attitudes are indispensable for the success of PG. We don't go for BS or hype and will ruthlessly point fingers at the most glaring problems. We are destined to annoy the heck out of complacency. So if you join the EA, don't just do it to get to play the unfinished game at the earliest possible date, but please make room for the possibility that your participation is needed and that your views can be of help to all of us.

Conversations in real life tend to bounce around too  next time I convo with someone in the real world I need to constantly remind them that, "hey, dude, your off topic"

I pretty much have the answer I needed so no need to post any more. If anyone has specific questions, please start another thread or message the person you wish to ask.

Thanks for your input.
