Bunker problem

Best Answer bortimus , 05 January 2017 - 03:30 AM

Hard to tell from the pictures exactly.  What happens when you click the "Lower/Restore Terrain" button? (4th button down on the left)

Do the bunkers look fine after that?

Have you altered any of the bunker depth or shrink values in the Layers Library?

Have a problem with the bunkers in this course and  not sure what the problem is

Heightmap is for a real course provided by a member

Tried  the below options to fix problem

There are a few more smaller bunkers with the same problems too

Deleted spline added a new one

Raised /lowered terrain/smooth

Added an extra Rough spline to surround the Bunkers

Checked library settings for anything out of order

Hope someone has a solution-  Thanks

I would say that the the problem is to get the grass showing on the bunker islands you had to not lower the terrain under the bunkers so its showing thru...maybe manually lower the terrain under the bunker and lock it so that when you build it doesn't hug the new terrain below

Maybe

Like Rob says. As discussed in the other thread, if you force the bunker to not lower the terrain, this is a possible side effect. It occurs on banks that are too steep or too sudden - it would be exactly the same on any other mesh as well - it's not a bunker issue.

However, a few dabs with the smooth tool should take care of that.  Just apply it gently, very soft brush at low opacity, and carefully coax the ugly spots into going away. Then recalculate.

You might want to save your height map before doing that, just in case.

Hey Robc, can you explain how to lower the terrain underneath and lock it - this looks a bit scary/risky on first thoughts

and that being said  i noticed that i cant lower the bunkers any more at their lowest point either due to Heightmap i have.

K11 found solution  for me on the Bunker Islands and grass so thanks very much

tried smoothing and softening along the edges prior, but will keep trying that method again

I actually cloned  the  bunker spline   and  used the new cloned bunker and removed the minus form the numbers and seems to have improved the problem, still a few problem areas along the edges, could have been a corrupt bunker spline too i suppose

Thanks again fellas, good helpful community here

I never intentionally click on the lower/restore terrain button because I am not sure what it may do but by mistake I have clicked on it a lot. so anyway what does it do .... does it only apply some type of change to the last thing you click on or does it go back to 3 days before when  you planted some grass - Thanks

It "only" pushes the Unity terrain down underneath all the meshes that contain the word "bunker" in their name, so that you can see how bunkers will appear in the game.

It used to create issues in previous, defunct versions of CF by nullifying all later terrain manipulation if left on, but is completely harmless now. It deactivates automatically as soon as you click on another CF icon or switch into terrain mode.

Hoping you can sort out these issues PingZing. Just finished up the clubhouse and hot asphalt silos and wouldn't want them to go to waste!

He's back in business and working on it. When it's done, it will be a real gem.

I'm such a nerd that I found the company who owned the silos, then the maker of the silos and built according to the specs on their brochure. Thank you Astec company.

It's more tris than most of my objects but still lower poly at 4088 tris for the whole thing.

Got the Bunkers sorted, still problems with Bunker islands but  they will have to do, made the grass higher and raised all the islands. Found a ton of little things to do .

Just have to say Dp,  i am in awe of the objects you have generously made for upcoming course

The silos  and the clubhouse look so realistic  and   impressed you went further and investigated who the Silos belonged to, I thought they were grain silos at first, then i saw the black mounds.

Clubhouse with the Dormer windows and verandahs, well i take a bow mate  and the texture work it looks spot on

Look forward to lowering these masterpieces into place .

How are the tee  Tee boxes coming,  the ones i gave you would have been ok as is but i know your doing your thing with them.

I should call you the Picasso of Blender or Dali, either one will suit

Thank you Dp
