I feel compelled to ask a few questions which I'm sure other lurkers would want answered, especially lurkers coming from the TW camp.

1) Are the deep rough areas actually penal in nature?

*By penal, I'm asking if a player must 'guess' how far their shot will be shortened, depending on the deepness of the lie and the club used (instead of having the game feed them the precise shortened distance, as TW14 does).

2) Can you prevent the precise sidehill lie from being fed to the player?   In TW they literally tell you the ball is sitting "5.4 degrees" beneath your feet or whatever.  Takes away realism.

*I'd rather have to judge my own lie 'visually' instead of being fed the data.

3) When the ball contacts the outer leaves of a tree (no branches) will it continue flying realistically?   In TW...leaves acted as brick walls so you'd have to aim several yards away from the nearest tree for fear of brushing a leaf.

4) When putting, is there a way to judge green elevation visually without being fed the data?

*In TW......the elevation is fed to the player and from there it's just add/subtract 'x' number of feet to compensate.   It's not even fun.  I'm looking for a way to logically "estimate" green elevation using visual cues or heat map colors, rather than being fed the precise elevation.

Thank you.

Yes, and you don't get any info on how deep or how far the may go.

You are given no specific lie info other than what you can see visually or by turning on the grid to see which way the slope goes.

3) When the ball contacts the outer leaves of a tree (no branches) will it continue flying realistically?   In TW...leaves acted as brick walls so you'd have to aim several yards away from the nearest tree for fear of brushing a leaf.

Yes.

The only info you get is the above/below elevation between the ball and the hole and what you can "read" of the green with or without the grid.

Thank you.

I assume when you say TW  you are referring to the console version as I noted you mentioned TW14. the last pc TW game was 08 and if played at expert level  there were no grids or yardage indicators from anywhere. You had to guess how thick or how much slope there was. Now at the beginner levels there is grid indicators and yardage is shown, just to be clear on that subject.

I would hope it would be something like that with PP. Those that want the info or are just into  having an easier game would have the info available but those that want a more true golf  play they would have that option and no aids available.

I don't know where to Post this.....but I finally got my new computer set up and I am Playing some rounds.

Question:  Is there a way to save a game if I do not have time to finish it and come back later to finish it?

I can’t seem to find one.

The game autosaves. When you re-launch PG, you have a choice of resume of end the game in the main menu.

Neat.  I'll have to look for that as I have never noticed it before.

Thanks,

I must point out here that golfers get lots of data fed to them by caddies and golfers will likely already have a certain level of knowledge of the courses they play.

Now, fair enough, the angle of your ball lie is a little much and actually means very little but elevation changes are practically common knowledge. One of my biggest concerns for any golf game is will it give us, the players, the same level of knowledge as a real golfer enjoys ? Most of them don't yet get called realistic experiences.

Please let us not forget that we will never get a true "sim" golf experience on PC or console. There are things in the real game that simply cannot be programmed but the most obvious one is that we basically see a 2D image of what is going on. This, for instance, preventing us from reading a green effectively which is why we need grids. On PC or console, it is impossible to look at an approach and work out how far you have left and what club to choose. Initially, this would be guesswork and some might even write this stuff down for future reference meaning that we might as well have this information on scree in the first place.

What I am trying to say is that although I accept there are those who prefer to have absolutely no information at their disposal, I would prefer a more realistic approach to the game and be given all information available to a real life golfer. Yardages, elevation changes, wind, ball lie, green reads and so on. Eliminating available information would be the same as playing a racing game and driving cars with no heads up display. To me, that makes no sense.

You will get player, game and course settings and optional helpers up your wazoo. The idea is that you, and not the devs, get to make the call of what you will have at your disposal for your round. Remember how computer players keep asking for options? You will get options to the tune of 2 billion possible settings permutations, according to Mike Jones. Perhaps not all of them right at the start, but certainly in the medium term. And you will get to save your most popular choices into different player profiles with different configs.

That reminds me of another question. Are there Computer (AI) players in the game and if not are they being planned to be added?

As most of you guys know I run KISS Tours site and the Tour I personally run is the CPU Tour where you play against computer player opponents.

They are my favorites and I look forward to helping get them set up right.

Jerry

PS: another one.  Can you save your played games so you could send them to someone else to play against?

Jerry, While you can set up to 8 players in a game, they are not Computer players like in Links 2003. Each player needs a human to use it. Since you are a tester, I think that you should post this to the New Feature topic within the private forum.

Currently, you cannot save a game and send it. Again, a new feature.
