Trying out some new Particle System idea`s. thought i would try something new for my next course.

There a 2 ways to follow, one more complicated than the other, i sat down watched the youtube video and have written it all down , more involved way uses PS to change the leaf picture into an Alpha Channel... .

There are a few varieties of leaves you can get off the WWW ( Wobble  Wobble Wobble ) and could probably use leaves from speed tree models i suppose, havent` looked into that yet.

If anyone is interested, i have written down the instructions, made a prefab and have a link to the video`s on how do go about it.

Video below using the Pine Needles, but can use all types of leaves ,  will be interested  to see what you think of it

Cheers

Another brilliant advancement.  Too bad pine needles don't fall like that.   ;)  Look forward to seeing it with some decidedly deciduous trees.  :)

I thought i would do some investigating and had a look at the Standard tree package and speedtrees.

Went into the folders of each tree searching for leaves from all the trees, and just what i thought
Shazam-Kaboom- there are all the leaves and normal maps, done in the alpha cutoff i need of all the trees
and all their leaves.

I thought i might have to go and make them all, and realised they must be in the trees packages anyway and yep i found them all. So i made a seperate folder, copied the leaves material, texture and normal map, the material is already made with extras details for realism that i didnt know about and Yahoo, they look awesome, even better than the demo i made.

So now we can have all the leaves from each tree, normal, fall, winter     :D

So we can use the particle system prefab and now any leaves from the trees packages

Happy Days , this will bring to life courses now

Did you notice any hit to the FPS, or you haven't had a chance to put in game yet?

Good for you PingZing,

Where can we find the particle system prefab and a small tutorial to try it. It will look so nice in the game I'm sure.

Thank you

I have been testing the course since he added the falling needles and noticed no hit on FPS at all. In fact my test version had way more falling leaves, and I suggested reducing the volume and frequency which he did in his video.

He is planning on releasing the prefab and making a tutorial video. It will probably be this weekend until he has time to create the video. He just found a wealth of leaves in the existing trees, so there shouldn't be a problem implementing the prefab for any tree.

Hi Mate

Try this new update , changed a few things ,this is for the conifer , more to come

Import unity package, then just drag the little blue box  icon which is the prefab only

It is set to play on awake.

Inspector Settings to Change- Change these 2 settings

Volume is set at 2 under Emissions in settings

Gravity Modifier is set at 0.02, you can change it up to 0.07

Of course you can change anything but those 2 main settings or leave as is

You can change Leaf colours as well or leave as is up to you

Prefab

Let me what you think so far, anyone with better knowledge could even improve, but its a start

Just played the Dalhousie course which has the Autumn falling leaves and whilst the falling leaves look OK , the way they just sink and disappear when then they hit the ground doesn't (IMO of course).

Is it easy for a designer to implement an option to have the falling leaves or not? I dont design so I dont have a clue...

I am wondering...

Does this affect all trees course wide, or are you able to select the tree or trees that have this effect?

I would really enjoy this "in the distance", but not sure about green-side, where I need all the concentration I can muster... lol

...hope that's not a dumb question...

Not sure how to make the leaves can fall flat on the terrain and not fall through...? , I have mine in the distance and you cant see them dropping at ground level really  as grass and trees hide them, it`s probably a unity /cf thing, maybe someone can have a solution.

I just came up with  the idea and ran with it, the effect looks good but not perfect, i moved and rotated mine so there not in the foreground too much.

Dalhousie with the falling leaves looks good though, its the first course to show them, mine is coming soon.
