Looked through the post,  couldn't find any info (or I missed it) on whether you can set the prevailing wind for a course. The course I'm building needs to have the wind from the Northeast. thank you

You can set the real world location in the COG menu in CF, using the Geo x/y/z and UTM

Im dont think you can set a default wind direction in CF, and Im not even sure of you can set the direction in game other than in practice game mode.

Either way, the wind is not right in the game as of yet. Just watch how the flag moves, it doesn't wave gently in a calm wind. The water does not blow in the same direction as the wind. This was brought up by me and others way way way back in the beginning. I don't know why, it has not been fixed..

Why would the flag flapping and the water movement mean the wind is not right?

Ever thought the flag and water movement might not be synced with the wind.

Go the extra yard and the clouds don't move in tandem with the wind either.

Personally I think the wind is great in the game.

The flags, water and clouds reacting based on wind direction and strength I can only think is on the to do list, but not seen as the most important thing to deal with.

So you agree. ;)

Well D, in my world if I'm looking at Any kind of flag and the wind is blowing from left to right, usually the flag is moving in that direction too. Not just "flapping in the wind" in a hap hazard way. Unless of course, it's a violent wind. But not a gentle breeze.

Flags are also used as an indicator of wind direction, not here though.

Water, in my world, when I'm standing on the banks of a lake/pond and the wind is blowing from left to right, the ripples on the water ARE NOT moving Right to left.

Clouds, you're right, they don't move in the direction of the wind. Another issue.

I'm glad you think "personally" the wind is gr8. I don't happen to agree.

I do happen to think it's a big deal. However this is just a friendly conversation, not an "immediate request" for the wind/water and clouds to be in more or less "sync".

Details Daz, details. :)

I think the affect that the wind has on the ball is excellent.

I agree that the environment (flags, trees, water, clouds, etc) is not properly synchronized to the wind direction or strength though.

Does the game override all windzones set in Unity?

I would assume so but I'm not sure.

It would be nice if designers could set the prevailing wind direction so that fictional course layouts play as intended if wind is factored into hole designs.

Personally, if I have to play a course with the same wind every single time, I'm prolly not gonna play it much.

No, you can't set any wind direction in CF. Wind zones don't do anything.

I, for one, believe that setting the main wind direction is the job of the designer, bot for real and for fictional courses - as long as we can't do that, there is a strong design element missing from our toolbox. That does not mean that this wind should always blow from exactly the same angle, only that it oscillates +/- 30 degrees or so  around that angle.

Rather than to go with random winds outright, let players choose if, and by how much, they want to randomize the wind direction. It could even be an additional weather setting - Wind changes: Frequent - occasionally - rare.

But the dominant wind should be the default setting.

Yes, this has been mentioned and requested several times already over the last thre years. Zero comments from the Devs so far.

thanks all. K11 I believe that was something that you could do in APCD. set the direction and a variable , like 30 degs. variation or something like that. Most courses I would think have a prevailing wind.

Yup, I remember doing that in APCD. It was there, even on the super-glitchy Mac port that lasted just a few nanoseconds. It was the very first thing I set when starting on one of my five, unpublished courses, and every hole was outlined with that wind direction in mind.

A bit like real course design... harrumph...

If you can't set the prevailing wind direction (let alone secondary wind directions) you can't design a course properly (and certainly not a real course). I'm sure that the best designers out there have either knowledge of or a workaround for this issue (oh boy, another one of those).  In a perfect world you could say "50% east, 20% west, 20% north, 10% random".  Now if the global location feature in the game actually knew what the prevailing wind was (along with the strength) as was kind of inferred originally, then the problem would be solved. You'd just study weather stats for your location.

At the very least can anyone tell me which way the wind blows by default? Then I can orient my course appropriately.

Does a course need to have a geographic location?  If they don't, I can see how that would impact design of the holes considering a prevailing wind.  I know you can put a geographic location in and use real world weather when playing the course.  Sure, it's up to the user to enable the real time weather and enter the appropriate location to get a prevailing wind, but at least it seems there is a round-about way to get a prevailing wind.

The designer would have to know the prevailing wind for a location and then set that location for the course and design appropriately.  Perhaps such details could be neatly included in a readme file or on the course splash screen (although I really prefer the look of a "clean" splash screen!)

But how do you set in the location? I am currently working (once I have this question answered) on a "fantasy" course (for lack of a better word) set in a real world location, and would like the wind to be accurate for that location. Also, in Unity is the "X" axis north (that would make sense)?

In Course Forge under Settings:-

2asVGXk.jpg

To get the Geo Ref get the Long and Lat from Google Earth and put it into this site

http://www.synnatsch...e-converter.php

This gives you the UTM location which then sets the sun position etc
