Anybody ever play with the UI off (Ctrl+Alt+U), and just take

what the caddie gives ya?  It's quite fun with no cams, no overhead,

no club adjustment; just the whole screen view and You.

I've played a number of rounds like this.  Naked golf, I believe some call it.  It's surprising how close you can guesstimate the distance on approaches, pitches and chips with only the knowledge of which club the caddy hands you and eyeballing the shot.  Putting can be tricky determining the distance but one can read the greens quite well without the BLI or grid.  About as close to playing a real round of golf as we can get.

Ted Ball ran an exhibition in August last year, as indicated in this thread:

The leader board links no longer work, but a few players played several rounds of BARE golf.  I only missed club selection and chipping/pitching options from the game's interface; if these were available in BARE golf, I'd likely play all my rounds this way (well, that's assuming I play a few rounds again some day!)

A UI free mode doesn't need much to work brilliantly.

Assuming CTRL-ALT-U has been applied....

When you scroll the wheel to change clubs, the club number could appear on the screen as it changes, and disappear after 2 seconds when scrolling stops.

Allow a defined toggle key to call the ball flop/check/slice popup - by Itself.

Allow defined keys for chip/pitch/flop/full shots, that display what's been selected for 2 secs when a change is made then disappear.

Optional - a toggle hotkey for wind strength/direction, and one to show distance to pin.

Done. Perfect UI free golf.
