good day all.  i am force to play JNPG (skytrak) with almost golf balls (hard foam balls).  i notice around a 10% decrease in distance on all shoot.  was wondering if any option is available to increase yardage or if any option was planned in upcoming patches.  talking about offline play of course since it would not be good to allow this for online playing.

love the game and all the modes of play.  only thing missing for my situation is the boost on all shots similar to other software /hardware that includes this feature.

thanks for your help

I asked the same question for the same reasons over year ago from this forum and from SkyGolf and the answer was and still is no :( . There is no boost option in JNPG's simulation and there isn't boost in ST.

And if you for example tweak SkyTraks altitude settings, it has no effect on JNPG. I also hoped I could use yards in SkyTrak and meters in JNPG, so it would give me that 10%. But the integration between them isn't that stupid:).

Then I realized I could change the altitude of the JNPG courses and did some googling. I can't remember exactly, but there is a particular altitude (over 1000 meters or so) where the ball flies 10% further than when played at the sea level. So I did some more research and found out that the altitude of JNPG courses was mentioned in those files that come with the courses. Unfortunately, I also find out later that JNPG courses don't read the altitude from those files, so changing them won't help.

There I was. Nothing could be done with my almost golf ball simulation to make it work more realisticly. I also knew that the LA was incorrect with almost golf balls (the LA is more shallow) and the feeling over all isn't the same. The dream of a real simulation started to tease me.

So I did some more research. I found a good golf net that was big enough and figured out how I would fasten it to the roof so it would protect the rest of the house. Then I found a cheap and tough enough impact screen to put in front of the net. Purchased a better hitting mat also and there it was, almost real golf simulation. Only one thing remains, the projector. It's the next fall's investment. Untill then, I'm using my 60 inch LG TV.

WARNING: No matter how good products you'll buy, nets will wear out and impact screens will wear out (mostly because of the ball spinn), so NEVER EVER use only one single net or screen to protect your loved ones, yourself or your home. Impact screen with the net is a fine combination. They protect each other and if the first one breaks down the other one catches the ball. Other possibility is to buy a large enough net so you can double back it.

OGT interface allows boost in player profiles for GC2 users.  Can't be used in tournaments of course.

We stayed away from it largely because of its impact on online play and tournaments.  We added an option for OGT which enables this but allows them to discard tournament rounds when this mode is enabled thus protecting the field.

This is one of those things that is on paper easy to implement.  Put a check mark in the settings select boost percentage and go.  Its the time to make sure that it cannot be manipulated or abused that takes all the time and testing.

Happy to listen to the community and if people think its an important feature we will always consider it.  The first step would be for the people who have this legitimate need to specify the exact adjustments that they feel would promote the most relaistic golf experience.  Pretty much all the simulation settings have been developed this way through community involvement.

hi Andrew.  first off thank you very much for taking the time to answer.  I totally understand what you mean.  online play needs to be fair with no manipulation or it will drive users to be less interested in playing.  in my situation and many people i know we dont play online.  we play local multiplayer or single play.  if the system could allow for the boost optoin but only for local play i think it would be an amazing feature.  i totally love JNPG compared to other sims because of all the local multiplayer game modes.  i am really split for renewal because other sims have this option but not all the game modes you offer.  if ever it could be developed like i mentioned for local play only without affecting online tournaments i think it would be an option used by a good % of users.

great job on the game and this site.  its an amazing user experience and to get feedback from the creators/administrators like this is amazing.

The biggest problem with using almost balls is that the 10% short theory is not accurate for all clubs.  If I recall from memory (with the GC2) the shorter clubs were closer to actual yardage but as you hit longer clubs, the yardage was shorter.  So wedges could almost be left as is but the long irons and drivers would need more boost than the 8 iron for example.  The spin and LA are also skewed with almost balls so this also plays into the shorter carry.

So if PG could ever add that option for Skytrak users to boost, it would need to be on a club by club basis to set them up with a more accurate carry.  Even the GC2 interface won't do this.  Then you would need to select the club to also make it more accurate when playing.

You also most likely already found out that after hitting almost balls for a week or two and then hitting a real ball, it feels like a rock and takes a while to get the feel of a real ball back.

very good point which i had not considered.  and yes i can confirm the shorter clubs are closer to actual.  the option would still be better than non.  maybe use like 5% increase so the long clubs would be off by a lot less and the short ones a little strong.

so far i have not had to many issues with using foam than real but i know i have read some articles that do point out it gradually also changes your swing which is not great but in my case and many other people i know the foam balls are the only option for our setup.

I would be interested in an optional boost where we can add the desired percentage, only for local play.
Not in short game or putting mode of course.

I enthusiastically agree with those who would like to see a boost allowed for local offline full-swing play, but not allowed for online tournament play or putting or chipping. This would allow for much more realistic game play for players who use the Almost Golf balls or other alternative balls. It may be too complicated to easily implement a custom boost for each club since players with different swing speeds will produce different launch conditions (and resulting distance) for each club and the launch monitor can't figure out what club you're hitting unless you have a way to tell it for each shot. Customizing boost for different ranges of ball speed or launch angle might be something to consider at some later point, but JNPG could start by just allowing a percent increase in distance for each player. The player and the playing partners (if any) would just agree how much distance or ball speed boost would be allowed for each player at set-up.

It's really important to allow boost % for each player to be set individually since each player may need to use a different ball. As an example, I use a regular ball when I play JNPG on Skytrak, but my son uses an Almost Golf ball. It would be great for us both to be able to adjust JNPG to play as close to real golf as possible.

Thanks for considering this option!

I would like to see a boost option.  My shots register about 20% less distance in JNPG than other sim software so a boost would be great.   Not that it is the only reason - but other sim software offer this feature.  It is even good to have when playing against your friends.
