Are most of the courses that the pros play on the tour available in Perfect Golf? Why do some of the courses have alternate names?

Which, I wouldn't think there should be. JPNG doesn't host them. Over at coursedownloads.com every Real course and its proper name have been built over there for the TW's game and never an issue..

But if I remember it rightly Larry the PGAX tour that used TW2008 real courses had to change it's name to CGX Tour because of rumoured problems with the PGA.

Exactly but we are talking about Naming the  Real Courses by their Real Names. Something that has been done for years and years and no probs.

Then why was Augusta National taken down and re-done and renamed something else (Georgia Pines I believe)?

I have heard the designer got a cease and desist from AN's attorneys.....

TPC Sawgrass is called Florida Glades because of licensing.

There are real courses like Muirfield, PGA National etc. that have their real names as PP has the license to use their names and course likeness.

Well, if you're talking about the place I was talking about (coursedownloads.com) I still see it up. Otherwise, don't know what you mean?

That site is irrelevant as it is supporting a 10+ year old game. No one cares about it.

Modern games are a different story.

Sure your right. But you can go back as far as 06 when the game was, well, booming and you can find Augusta National 06, so back in the day, ppl still named them by their real names. No cease and desist then?

However I won't argue as I have known you for many years and you are wise on these matters. :) That was then and this is now.

That was prior to EA getting the Augusta license in 2011. The older the game, the lesser the attention.

Good discussion though. I think it is wise be aware of what can happen if you use a course's actual name without having a license. It is a risk, but not a huge one unless you are selling said course for money, then it can get messy if the course decides to sue.

I have a spreadsheet with all of the Perfect Golf courses 'tabbed" by Real or Fictional.  Under Real, the courses are listed by their "in game" name along with the actual course name, city and zip code, and link to actual golf course.  When I have time, I may include a column for PGA events where it applies.  Log onto the Recorded Rounds site at MEGA for the file (set up by Ted Ball).

Yes, course downloads is awesome  but for some reason I can't get TW08 to run on this computer. So I came over here and started looking for courses to keep up with the pros and I find it lacking.

Augusta is extremely aggressive in protecting their intellectual property, and even they could not keep the name "Augusta"  off of Coursedownloads.com, as long as no one was making money off of it. PP supplied courses such as "Florida Glades" must either get permission or change the name as they are profiting through selling the game with it.

I still don't understand how this applies to user created courses that the designer does not charge for such courses. Still it is no big deal to rename the course and let those of us playing know the name of the real course. I only wish that Perfect Golf would have all of the  tour courses so that I could play along.

i just put the real courses names on the flash screens, in big lettering with paint program

then you can see them when running through the courses to find one to play

Hi bgast1,

Eventually this game will have almost any course you want to play on that you would find in real life. The real name issue came up when Augusta was released for some reason which we do not really know the answer. You would have to contact the official Augusta legal team and ask them for an explanation. This made other recreation releases from designers shy away from the real name.

At any rate, many of the fantastic designers are working on it: http://onlinegolftou...php?f=87&t=2072

Being that in relative terms the JNPG course designer Course Forge was recently released to the general public there is still work to do. I cannot do anything about your patience quota but you should know that Perfect Parallel's goal is for consumers to be able to play along with real events with a simulator and in our lucky case that will translate over to other platforms, eventually.

Hope you give the game a try.

This issue exists because there is a line between having an official course license and creating a course likeness for use in a commercial product irregardless if the course is being sold for profit or not.

Augusta National has attorneys that are very hawkish on protecting the name and brand of AN and the Masters. Other courses range from being like AN to not really caring. At the end of the day, if you create a likeness of a course, any course that is played on any of the professional tours, be prepared for a letter from their attorneys if they object to your course being played in a commercial game without their express permission.

Lastly, if AN wanted the course with that name off of Coursedownloads, they would have.

The universal objection by the various tours, clubs, lawyers, etc. can be summed up in one word, 'MONEY'. Everyone wants some of it and the world loves litigation.
