hello guys

been waiting for this game since i heard about it a few months ago, and wow i'm NOT disappointed, it's exactly how i hoped it would be, clean, nice and just feel like playing golf on beautiful courses.

of course it's early days (even early hours i should say) but i hope you guys will be able to continue develop and improve this game for some time because the potential is just amazing !

my only minimal 'gripe' so far is the putting interface. I don't understand why you choose to go as far as telling the player how much force to apply to get close to the flag.

You really just have to aim for the line on the power meter (bit more if you're uphhill, bit less if downhill) to be close to the flag. I would be so much better and realistic, in my opinion, to let the player evaluate by himself the power he has to apply to get close to flag (and at time get it completely wrong just like you would in real life). As of now it just seems too easy to putt well (even if i'm very bad player but that's another topic ;) )

can someone explain me the logic about this 'power meter' based on distance to the flag ? i'm sure there are good reason to have gone this way and maybe with an explanation i'll be convinced too

big thank you and take care everyone :)

The explanations will come surrounding the choice of putting... and it may suit some and not others.

Some feel the Power should be linked to the meter and not the Aiming Marker. Some feel the Aiming Marker should be exactly that... personally I do lol. We did initially test another putting method whereby the Aiming Marker controlled everything.. it wasn't totally bad, but this feels more right. Now the Aiming Marker controls only, well... the Aim.

The Current Flag on the Meter is the distance from your ball to the hole plus 2ft. So, whilst you may be currently using default greens, this marker is set for a default Stimp, so the slower or faster greens will be alot tougher in terms of judging how hard to hit the ball.  If you are finding it easy, then don't knock it, you may have mastered things alot quicker than some. However, have you tried turning the AIDS off ?

no no you got me wrong :P

i'm not saying it's easy (i'm a not so skilled player/gamer and i haven't done a single birdie yet), but i thought that it would be a lot more difficult (i'm playing without aids). For now i' have only played few holes but i could always get fairly close to the flag even from a long distance just by using that marker, without it (normal power meter) i would be a lot worst hehe.

so i was just a bit scared that with practice it would become a bit too easy with time because the marker tells me how much power to apply instead of having to judge it by myself (like i would do in real life).

thank you for your reply (and english not being my main language sometimes i dont succeed in explaining exactly what i mean hehe)

Are you playing with motion swing

Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it!    Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.

In real life it's quite likely you will 2 putt most holes, with a 3 putt more often than a 1 putt. This game is not really any different in determining the result of your putts. However, getting the right distance and reading the green is where the skill will always be needed. Too hard and the break will remove a little from your line, too soft and it's gonna fall away. The marker isn't alwys helping though, it's simply a guide for a flat surface on a default green. Play a few more greens and speeds, and you'll soon see how tricky it can be... especially the closer you get!

J.H.

no haven't tried mouse swing yet, clicks only already a challenge :D

Ian

yeah you're probably right , played a bit more last night and i got used to it and the more i play the more natural it will become, it was probably just the first impression of that marker being too much of a help but you're right about 2-3 putts being realistic.

Thanks for the input, now i understand the logic about it, and i like it

My only beef with putting is the avatar motion.... It's just so sloooooow... I know it'll probably be tuned some, but for now it's funny watching it.
