Will we have a moving sky IE: will clouds move, will they move slower in calm winds and faster in breezy conditions?

Will we have Panoramas to add to the course, will we be able to make our own?

Will Trees/bushes move in the wind and will they move faster and slower depending on the wind conditions.

Will we be able to set the wind during a game?

Thank you.

Axe

Forgive me, these questions are for course design and game play, so I put them in this forum..

There was talk of plans for a dynamic weather system to be incorporated into Perfect Golf, but initially I expect a only a skybox will be added. These can be animated though, so I would expect some basic movement, even from early releases.

It would be great to see the trees and plants moving, and I'm sure this will happen, whether initially, or at a later date. It definitely adds an added immersion to 3D games, and could even be a way for players to judge the wind direction and strength on the toughest levels, if it could be done accurately! :)

I also hope to see a Course Life System, which was pretty basic stuff for the TW PC game for years.. Sky moving, trees blowing in the wind, water movement, birds flying and chirping... Squirrels running around etc.. These things IMO MUST be in the game in order to have the feel of being their.. As I said, this should be pretty basic but very important stuff to have.. Hoping to have a dev post a reply here..

@Acrilix dynamic sky has been implemented in TWPC for years now, so shouldn't be an issue but I am curious to know..

We'll only ever add bells and whistles when they add to the realism rather than detract from it. Moving and dynamic sky's are something we have planned but not implemented yet simply because of development priorities. Currently wind does affect the vegetation and it will be possible to change the strength of it in game which will in turn have more effect on the trees etc. We can even tie up the wind with the water shader so we see wind making the water rougher with larger ripples etc.

Mike - would the wind take more effect above the tree line in this case? Similarly would a sheltered part of a course be less impacted by the breeze?

Thank You Mike for the quick reply... Sounds gr8! I agree, we may not need squirrels in the game. lol

It would be brilliant if this was the case, although I could imagine the complexity of programming it! Also, the more calculations going on, the higher the spec of computer needed to run it. Meteorologists use huge supercomputers for their complex weather calculations!!

I could see how it could be a function easier for a course designer to set though, (much like someone suggested for painting in the random pin areas). Designers could mark certain areas of their course that were more sheltered (in a colour that represented tree height), and the wind could have a reduced affect when playing through these areas.

Mike: This may have been asked somewhere at sometime but will real time events happen such as a brief rainstorm rolling in that will on the fly slow down run out speed of drives, and the slowing down of green speeds?

Maybe drainage and irrigation should have to be incoperated into the designs, like real course designers have to (although they hire speialist i believe). Then if it rains heavy your course will flood in areas with inadequate drainage, or 'burn up' and go brown where no irrigation is present. Maybe a bit much that ;)

That's actually an incredible idea, but a programming nightmare. I'm not expecting it at all, but the simple thought of it raises my blood pressure.

I have a newbie question here in regards to the panorama scene....

My first attempt at course design will be my local 9 hole course, it's a fairly simple layout with a lot of good views from the tee boxes and such-

do we pick from a stock library for what's displayed in the background? My hope is I could take some pictures of  the distant mountains and somehow use them for a more realistic look to my course.  I'm already taking notes of the different types of trees on each hole...lol

thanks for any help-

Maineah

**edit**  teach me for jumping in without reading completely...  Axe  included this question when he started the topic.. DOH!

OK I now have my computer all installed and ready to go in my new tent.

I like the idea of different levels of wind depending on treeline etc, also perhaps areas pre programmed into a course by it's creator where the wind would swirl around a little and become unpredictable (think Augusta 12). I know that's programmatically possible so it'll go on our 'to do' list for future implementation.

Perhaps it would be possible to create vertical divides every "X" feet that increase exponentially as the height increases proportional to the wind speed at teebox level. Perhaps with a 10 mph wind, we could be looking at something like this:

  • -40 feet - 6 mph
  • -20 feet - 8 mph
  • 0 feet - 10 mph
  • 20 feet - 12 mph
  • 40 feet - 14 mph
  • 60 feet - 16 mph
  • 80 feet - 18 mph
  • 100 feet - 20 mph

The wind speeds would be set to the above for each area so that when the ball enters it, that's the wind speed that would affect it. I'm just shooting the crap right now, but this would be a sweet idea to implement, and definitely an innovation in online golf gaming.
