Ok so now this is going on. when I try and reinstall Unity, once it installs all my old "scene packages" turn into these.

Not the black and white scene files anymore.

picture001.jpg

All of these should look like this one.

In order to get my scene packages back to this bottom pic. I have to do a "system restore".

Any help would be most appreciated.

Another couple of things. When I try to find the latest CF, (since I am a tester it's not on steam for me) all I can find is a 1.5 but it's a .rar file. No help there. I also have from before something called a CFTutorial package and I can't find that any more as I think that one is the latest CF.

How come the devs never come on here and answer what should be easy questions? I sure would like to start another course but cannot.

I couldn't get any help with my water issue either. I dunno folks.

I thought you said in our last conversation that your had the CFTutorial file.  The file icon issue is a windows file association.  You'll have to google how to change that using the version of the OS you have. :)

My bad, yes I do have a copy it just pisses me off I can't find it anywhere on this site, again.

Ahh Ok, I will google that, thanks bud. :)

But I'm still confused, it's been months and months since I installed Unity for the first time.

Is it the 1.5 (which is an rar file) or is it the CFTutorial? I can't use the 1.5 but want to be sure, I think its the CFTutorial and I know, I'm having issues because I'm a tester but how are all the other testers finding this stuff?

Funny thing, When I hover over a "scene file" it shows the black and white icon (see yellow circle) and I have installed a course into Unity, so just for some reason I don't get the black and white icon now.. I hate to start a new course with something not working correctly. So, taken a break I guess.

Peace

Hope someone can help you Axe, i know what your saying, you installed unity ages ago and worked on your project and like many and then dont have enough knowledge or forgot how things work.

the way i see it  following the cf tutorial thread is, download unity 5,2,3fl

and cf tutorial-the course forge program, which used to have a link, but it`s in the dlc steam folder  now

Crow sent you a link to unity but it shows unity 2017 on the front page, but thats not what we want though

I think you should Pm mike- good luck on that one though , looks like  not many  have bothered to reply and help out here

except for crow, i get frustrated like you mate when i dont see many replies with urgent help like you need, wish i had the answers but i am like you, i just know enough to get by  but dont have the  thorough  indepth skills

Cheers and hope  someone replies with some help

The provided link is good.  Hit the Unity 5.x tab and the version you're after is down the page a bit.

Pingzing, that link is good I just didn't push the 5x button. My bad. However, its pretty simple, dl Unity, install it. BOOM that's when it changes my icon. I don't even get to the point of having to install CFTutorial.

So it's nothing I forgot to do, it's nothing I am doing wrong, I mean, how many ways can you install it? lol

Forget asking Mike, I tried that once for my water problems and no help.

The good news is, It works like it is. So I guess I'll goof around until the new one comes out but yeah, customer support around here isn't exactly what it used to be. Sad. Especially since they always say, "We read Everything". :(

The icon in Windows Explorer might be an issue with your registry and/or the icon cache in Windows.  Can you check the following registry key and see what it shows?

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unity package file\DefaultIcon

Mine shows  "C:\...\Unity\Editor\Unity.exe",0  and hopefully yours is similar and only showing one entry.  We can compare registry entries, if that helps, but it might be just as well for your to rebuild your icon cache in Windows (which seems to be the real issue).  The registry key is just a check to see if something obvious is awry ...  :)

To delete (and rebuild) the icon cache in Windows, do the following (assuming you're running Windows 10):

1.  Close all programs.

2.  Hold CTRL+SHIFT and right click on an empty area of the taskbar

3.  Choose Exit Explorer (the bottom item, I believe); note that all icons and possibly your task bar will be turned off

4.  Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open the task manager

5.  Choose File | Run New Task and then type CMD.EXE  and press enter (might be best to run with elevated privileges by checking the box before pressing the enter key

6.  Change to the icon cache directory by typing:  CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local  and then press enter

7.  Delete the icon cache by typing:  DEL IconCache.db /a  and then press enter

8.  Exit the CMD program by typing:  EXIT  and then press enter

9.  Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open the task manager again

10.  Choose File | Run New Task and then type EXPLORER.EXE  which should restore your desktop icons and/or taskbar.  (Alternatively, you could reboot your computer.)

Hopefully that will restore the icons to the Unity icon you're expecting to see.

Thank you Armand. Yes mine is this. *C\Users\axe360\Desktop\Unity\Editor\Unity.exe*,0

I"m on Win7 and I have done the Icon rebuild for win7, no help..

Note: Now the black and white icon for Unity does show on my desktop, it's just all the other black and white icons are gone. Once I delete Unity, the icons come back. I have posted a question to Unity but I seem to have as much trouble getting a response from there devs too.

Thanks for trying bud.

My last guess follows ... :D

How about the following registry keys.  I'm guessing a second Unity version from your beta testing might be causing the issue, but I can't understand why it should.

HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/FileExts/.unity*

EzxvWqjl.png

4LP5n4sl.png

6e0ngRIl.png

qooaDsyl.png

I'm a bit puzzled as to why my Unity files seem to to associated with Firefox in the screenshot above, but ....

qVIw2Ucl.png

p7mMOXrl.png

The above screenshot looks a bit better, as Unity.exe should open the .unitypackage files ...

4w8RLrrl.png

If this doesn't shine a light as to the issue, I guess you know a solution:  uninstall Unity!

(I know ... that's not helpful at all   )

Edit:   Actually, one final thought.  After you uninstall Unity, search through your computer and Registry for any instances/references to Unity and delete them (the MRU lists are fine).  I hope that a reinstall at that point would properly assign the icons to the file extensions.  Or, just put up with the small annoyance (that's very hard for some people to do - myself included!)
