The Kids' Simulator Tour on OGT is proving quite popular - however to give them a short enough course they can play, the Challenge tees (in those courses which have implemented them) are being currently being used. The issues with that are:

1. Challenge tees are not intended for this purpose
2. Unlike all other tees, Challenge tees can not be mixed with other tees, so the parent can't play along from their chosen tee. Playing from multiple tees has convinced many to choose JNPG over TGC and has TGC2 sim addressing that.

Propose an additional category, as repurposing ladies etc isn't appropriate as it may be used already and confusing.

I agree with shimonko. On Pinehurst No. 2, I used the Forward tees for Junior tees because I thought that this name best represented the Junior tees. However, it did not make sense since the order of the tees when you are selecting them are:

Championship, Tournament, Back, Member, Forward, Ladies, Challenge

To me, it is strange to put the Forward tees closer to the pins than the Ladies tees. I also think it is odd to use the Forward tees as the Ladies tees and the Ladies tees as Junior tees.

An off-topic point .... many times in the past few years, when I have referred to the "ladies tee" when playing with women (strangers), I'm often told that they are the "forward" tees (on the courses I play IRL).  I wonder if junior/senior golfers feel slighted in some way if we speak of "junior/senior tees"?

Back on topic, though, it seems either an additional tee should be included in CF or designers should repurpose existing tee boxes to include a more forward tee in their designs.  As to the naming of the tees, well, there is at least one other naming issues in the game, so I'll leave it to others ...   ;)

Not that I'm planning to release a course for quite some time, but I just made a mental note to place junior tees on my future designs. If the next CF does not change in this respect, I will re-purpose the forward tees into junior tees.

However, not having much experience with this particular tee category, I would welcome some competent input about average hole distances and tee placements vis-a-vis - or rather alongside - the fairway. Or on the fairway itself?

Not to familiar with this either and will be adding them to my in progress course but here is what Zmax has provided me.

And I quote.

"For kids tees, keep them below 150 and total around 1000 per 9 holes. If your new course already has ladies, then use challenge tees as kids tees.
Otherwise add both and keep challenge tees as fun/challenging tees (still keep all holes reachable with one club please)".

Having provided that, I'm still in the dark. So yeah, how bout a tut?

Zmax's suggestion of 1000 yards and under for 9 holes is better than the US Kids Golf yardages IMO (although the 0-8 category isn't bad) as some of the kids who are playing are as young as 3 and a 25 yard hit is celebration time. The youngest were scoring 45 over for 9 on the real short Challenge tees.

Forward tees aren't bad, but many real courses already define them and they're aimed at quick, handicappable rounds for all golfers rather than kids, so they'd clash.

Until a new tee type for juniors is added, I agree with the Forward tee being the junior tee. Allows me to play along with my child using the "Any" tee settings.

Going to be tough to find distances that satisfy all kids in relation to par though. My son (9 years old) plays in PGA junior league and all holes are 285 yards or less.

He carries his driver 120, 3wd 105, hybrid 95, 7 iron 85, 9 iron 75, sw 60.

I use these distances when considering carries over water and rough. Sometimes, you may just have to move tees way up if there are forced carries that don't make sense for them.

He can play to par when holes are as below,
Par 3s - 100 or less
Par 4s - 200 or less
Par 5s - 285 or less

I would imagine the 10-13 age range would handle the above easily and start pushing into ladies tee distances.

You can also use a flat disk as a marker if you are worried about an eye sore in the fairway. Or a very tiny tee that is virtually invisible, I guess.

I'm more than happy to add these Jr. Tees? However, maybe if some of you in the know, more than I, could come to a consensus then pin that somewhere, I think would be most helpful? Whatcha think?
