Has anyone tried doing a 36 hole complex where they used the same lidar plot for both courses?

Curious to see what the best way of going about it this would be logistically..... ideally I'd like to be able to do it with one Unity scene and the same set of assets, textures, etc... but I'm not sure how I would set it up.

Blackwolf Run is in need of an update and has a few playability issues that need to be fixed. Lately I've been obsessed with the idea of doing an entirely new version with proper lidar since the original was an APCD conversion, and at the same time, also doing a rendition of the Meadow Valleys course which has some world class holes in its own right, as well as the possibility of using the US Womens Open composite layout which used 9 holes from each.

Matt,

I created a video explaining how to create multiple layouts on the same terrain. You can view it in this OGT forum topic (scroll down to the third post). After viewing, ask me any questions you need for clarity. You probably should install the CF patch listed in the in the same message.

There's no lidar for it on USGS or NOAA or Wisconsin view data portal that I could find :( . But it could be out there somewhere.

matt ,bedminster old course and new course ,are both on the same lidar plot, amazingly they both run well, with over 1000 splines.huge pain in the #ss, and quiet a learning experience, but very doable.theres more than one way to do it,larry kuh has a way,but what i did was layout all the splines on both courses, then i completely finished the first course, tested ,made a final, and saved.then i deleted all the tee and hole markers from 1st course ,and went to the next course and finished it .once i finished both courses,i was still able to open each one seperately under the 2 different file names.im sure theres a better way ,but i couldent figure it out.the only problem really was it took forever to finish, and its still not completely finished,i will at some point go back and work on both again. good luck with the project matt,i know it will be great. :)

I don’t recommend it...the splines and objects from one course will slow down the frame rate on the other

If you do this, at least share the clubhouse if that’s part of the equation. (like pinehurst and it’s surrounding courses), and get rid of the splines and planting on the other course unless some holes are in view.

My course the glen I created some fairways next to it to visualize another sister course. The bunkers were painted in, no bunker splines, and except for the fairways close by, I only used 2d trees in the distance.

If I created a sister course for the glen, I would need to delete pretty much all the planting on the original course because the tri count would be huge on a lot of views.

Hmmm.... well Rob's post scares me a little bit because my main computer is pretty much a dinosaur; even at medium settings the game is still a bit of a strain on my system so a plot with 1,000 splines might not be workable at this time. I am probably replacing this computer soon, so it might be worth waiting until then.

It sounds to me like there's no LIDAR anyway

Reviving this topic as I have a slightly different idea.

I have an old course from an APCD conversion that I've been fixing up and have become rather fond of.... I'm thinking of doing another course in the same style using an identical set of textures, trees, etc. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the same plot of land, but is there a way I can retain the scene I'm using? I was thinking about creating a companion 18 and doing a simultaneous double release, sort of like a band releasing a double album :)

Can I simply create a new terrain in the same scene and lay holes out on it with the library and all that intact?

Haven't thought this through, but why not just go

into debug and delete what you don't want? Then rename the scene.

Never tried it, so not a recommendation, just spitballing.

Of course backing up your current whole course would be advisable.

I’m pretty sure you can,...just delete the old plot and plants/splines

I'm laying out the second course on a second terrain and then just deleting most of the shapes from the first one, except for a couple of the holes on the edge (with tees and pins removed, obviously).... so you might get a glimpse of one or two fairways from the other course. I figure the other plot won't slow things down too much if I strip it of pretty much everything except maybe 5-10 splines and a few trees. Obviously am backing up terrain and saving into separate scenes.

The first terrain isn't big enough for the other course, so I created a second one adjacent to it, but it's not allowing me to draw shapes or use the ruler. Is there a setting that will fix this?

I think CF only recognizes one terrain to build on.  There are Unity assets that allow you to connect multiple terrains into one.

An example:  https://assetstore.u...-stitcher-42671

Disclaimer:  I have never done this or used this asset and have no idea of scripting issues etc...

Probably best to try on a practice project first.
