So, I thought Kingston Heath would look more authentic if I isolated some of the bunkers from the rough splines as it doesn't really look right to have these rugged sandbelt bunkers sitting inside a ring of smooth green grass.

The problem is I have inverted bunker lips now. I get a similar problem when I create bunker islands, which I've solved by putting in negative values (or rather positive values where there are supposed to be negative ones).

Is there a setting / value I can put on the blends so that it sits below the terrain properly? The course looks inordinately better if I can have some bunkers sitting under paintable terrain.

I've recently begun putting Prairie Dunes together and I've found that course would also benefit from being able to have bunkers sit isolated from rough splines.

You also get the huge gaps around the bunker, you only see them in game mode or once built,  I'd also love to know if there is a method, i had a heightmap for a coastal course that would have most def benefited from isolated bunkers, having to add a rough spline totally ruined the authenticity of the course so i abandoned it.  being able to do this would add a new dimension to designs.

I had rough splines for Royal Melbourne and it turned out okay.... I can do it for Kingston Heath too, but it just doesn't look as good. There's a bit more wildness to the bunkers there.

Have also been experimenting with the pot bunker settings to get thicker lips.... they look great, but I'm getting those weird artifacts again unless I click the flatten button.... the artifacts disappear but then I get flat bottom bunkers. I'm trying to get kind of an in between look.

If you find anything worthwhile, gimme a shout, interested to try something.

So, these are the same bunkers with the same settings, except for one difference. I've used the pot bunker tool and tweaked the depths a little bit.

When I have the little green "F" ticked ("flatten the ring"), the bunkers look like this. Kind of a cool effect but not really what I had in mind.

Now, all things equal, I untick the "F" button and I get this. These would look pretty good except for the obviously butt-ugly jagged things that are sticking out. I can't seem to get rid of them no matter what I do.

I suspect your bunker depth, shrink etc... settings are causing those little bits of terrain to show through. If you don't feel like tweaking those settings then try this:

Save your heightmap as is (with these annoying things showing) This is your main heightmap to fall back to if anything goes wrong.

Then carefully lower the terrain on these spots just enough to hide them under the meshes. Don't refresh the splines.
Now save your heightmap again with a different name.

You want two heightmaps saved, before and after.

Build the course and those terrain bits should be hidden under the floating meshes.
This is similar to the bulkhead approach of lowering and hiding terrain under meshes without refreshing them.

It would make sense to do this step toward the end of your project because accidental refreshing of splines will cause those lowered areas to cave in. The saved heightmap is there as your safety net if this happens.

As K11 wisely suggested in his bulkhead tutorial...
Save your heightmap!

It's showing up in almost every bunker, and there's dozens of them on this course, so I'm not sure if I wanna deal with that. I'd have to do it for probably more than 100 bunkers. I think my preference would be to try and get the settings right, although I still don't fully understand what numbers do what yet.

The bulkhead is the other thing I've never gotten right. Funny how that happens.

While Course Forge is far superior to the APCD in most things, this is one area where I do miss the old dinosaur... the ability to do vertical extrusions made this so much easier.

What is the thickness of your spline meshes? Check that value under the button where you create course files. Increase the value, redo one spline for test and check what happens.
