4 hours entertainment for $30 is expensive? A sport where clothes you already own are accepted, preowned clubs and balls are extremely affordable - even half sets.

Ball needs to be rolled back for everyone. There is no reason amateurs need more distance now than 20 years ago. Just causes slow play from wild bills hitting farther offline than they can see.

If you rolled back the ball for amateurs you would lose a lot of players. Most players would not want to go back to 200-220 yard drives and 50% banana slices.

No reason they'd start getting banana slices if the ball was rolled back in distance. I'd gladly take the distance cut. Munis which have no room for lengthened tees are a bomb & gouge joke.

If you think the average amateur would be ok with losing distance you're crazy. Why should we do that for amateurs when they 3 putt every other hole. The amateurs are not the ones that need to be rolled back.

Distance is just a number--who cares if the field average drops from 250 to 220--everyone's affected.

Because balls and clubs will keep on advancing, as will the potential to hit further with club fitting and launch optimisation. Where do you stop? Existing golf courses will find they can't move tees back any more. A former good design with illusions and strategically placed hazards becomes bland. Just to stroke the amateur's ego like mulligans and gimmes do. He won't win anymore than he did before.

But distance matters to course creation and maintenance costs. Memberships become unaffordable, rounds take too long and clubs struggle and close.

When Australia changed handicapping system, most people's handicaps radically changed overnight and they whinged. No-one cared after a few weeks.
