So I'm Just Starting this and the learning curve is big for me, I have a hit list of local courses that i would like to recreate, what I'm looking for is a written out step by step Tutorial on how to bring the data into Global Mapper 21.0 (64-bit) to output the Lidar data to use in Unity, all the vids I find are from/for different versions and I just can't get it down, I'm going to try it with the 14 day trial so I would like to know the steps before I activate it, Any help would be a great, Thanks in Advance

It's great you want to do this yourself, but why not

list the name and address of the top course you want, and

some kind soul may just send you a Unity Package

ready to go?

Ok, I guess I could start a hit list,

1 - Wild Hawk Golf Club in Sacramento, CA

2 - Teal Bend Golf Club in Sacramento, CA

3 - Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, CA

4 - North Ridge Country Club in Citrus Height, CA

5 - Granite Bay Country Club in Granite Bay, CA

That's just the top 5 on my hit list, Thanks in Advance

I just did a quick check on the National Map, and there was no lidar available for any of the courses you listed. California appears to be recently adding lidar, so check again in a few months to see if it has become available. If you locate lidar is available in the future, let me knw and I'll help you learn how to create heightmaps.

Well bummer, so could I do them from an overlay Package with a flat plot? I know there is no more than a 60 ft height on any of those courses? and not to push my luck, I'm on an old laptop (2008 Toshiba Satellite) and I know there are courses already but i would like to do my on plantings fo personal use of Torrey Pines (North and South in one plot), Pumpkin Ridge (Witch and Ghost in one plot) and Sahalee Country Club (North, East and South all in one plot)?

The only one that currently had lidar available is Torrey Pines. None available for the other two. Not sure why you would want to create the Tprrey Pines courses when the have been done by experienced creators.

I believe you would find it very challenging to try and create courses from scratch with no lidar heightmap, especially if you are just starting with Course Forge. It is very difficult to shape the terrain close to the actual course. You could give it a try, but I'm reasonably sure you would becpme frustrated and give up.

That's quite a list.  Maybe just start with one to get an idea of how long it takes ?

Check the quality. 1m or less makes you life much easier. 5m or 15m is nearly worthless.

I checked the first one on your list, and it has hi-res lidar on the National Map. I would suggest using LAZ lidar where ever possible as it will give you the best results. Also to note the hi-res lidar around Las Vegas is very good, but takes forever to process. I do have two heightmaps available for Incline Village and the Incline Champ course. I hesitate to try any other Nevada courses due to the long process times.

I was hoping to get a Unity package for Sherwood Country Club, 320 W Stafford Rd. Thousand Oaks, CA 91361.  It appears to be on the NOAA website.  Fingers crossed they have a good quality Lidar of it.

This LIDAR looks very new and I believe its high resolution.  Should be excellent!
