I have been playing a little with Motion Swing with maximum everything and things are getting better, but I must admit I do think  the gauge with nothing on is a little too hard core for my liking.

Chipping is a lottery as a shot can vary immensely even when you feel you hit it the same time after time.

Putting to me is the most disappointing part of the game, as I don’t feel involved in the process at all.

I know I have harped on about powerstroke but chipping and putting in that were much more involving and nowhere near as easy as many would make it out as club head speed and direction could vary depending on your technique.

I have seen people mention the word practice quite a bit here, but I think there needs to be a happy medium between simulation and enjoyment.

As things stand at the moment, though I am enjoying my rounds in PP a little more,  I think Links will still be my game of choice for some time to come.

Just wait for the devs to finish the link between mouse movement and animation movement and I think the improvement will be dramatic. Besides not knowing how the shot will come out just makes it more like it is when I play in real life. I mean, I can aim all I want and then make a crappy swing and pull hook the ball out of bounds just as easily as I hit a line drive to the spot I aimed at.

I played Links since the 386 days, and had many, many hours of enjoyment doing so.  I haven't uninstalled it from my PC yet but I will not be going back to it. Links is dead to me now.

I am certainly enjoying testing and playing PG, but I'm not ready to 'unplug' Links yet.

As for 'practice vs. enjoyment', I think that's strictly up to the individual based on how much time they have available and how they want to spend it. To me, it's kind of like the difference of going to you local course on Wednesday morning, with a couple of friends to play a casual and friendly round vs. going on Saturday and Sunday to participate in a lucrative tournament, hoping to walk away with cash and a trophy. The intensity and skill levels need are substantially different. This game, and all games, should allow for both.

I to will keep Links 2003 on my PC, I have all the Links, but the latest patch that allowed Hi-Res texturing and all the courses I payed for will keep me playing on and off as long as I have a PC to play it on.

Some of the Links courses with Hi-Res textures were a 2oo+mb download, will we be seeing this for PG, or will the new courses just be available in the Cloud, with a Link to add to PG. ?

Are most of the courses available going to come with a nominal fee to d/l. I hope I can get my head around Unity and CF.

Richard I like your post.  I feel the lack of an aid at least on the chip shots makes the game much less enjoyable to me.  I would like to have an option so I could play a quick game with out taking a ton of time to practice just to get a decent game going.

On the other hand I know there are lots of folks that would love to invest the time to perfect their shots with out an aid.

Why not both?

After the personal struggles of the last few years I have come to realise it's not worth relying on things to go the way you would like.

I am prepared to be surprised but not hopeful

What a 'glum' outlook. Don't we all experience personal struggles in our lives? It's now that they occur, but rather how we conquer them.
