I played a round in PG for the first time in a few months using RTSM at Pro difficulty at River Highlands since that was where the PGA tournament just finished yesterday. Shot 9 over 79 with zero birdies and 1 triple. Still enjoyed it and even after 11 years it is the golf game I would keep if I could only choose one.
In my opinion it is still the best PC golf game and that is because of RTSM. It is hands down the best swing mechanic ever created for a golf game because it simulates the key elements of a real golf swing through the movement of a mouse. And like a real golf swing the tempo is never the same which means that it doesn't become repetitiive and boring. In addition there is no meter which to me is equivalent to being allowed to take a Trackman with you during a round. PG even has that simulated since when using RTSM you get a display of your tempo and swing path ONLY when you are on the driving range or in practice mode on a course.
As for graphics, EA Sports PGA has the best but PG is better than any of the 2K golf games including 2K25. In addition because PG's course architect allows you to create and export everything from objects to panoramas the courses created by the community are each unique in how they look and feel. Compare this to the 2K creations which are limited to the objects and panos that come with the game which is why all their community courses are so similar. PG also is also way more immersive in that you can move to any point on the course for a first person view. I remember checking out the interior of a small church on Wells Hollow. In other words it is a 3D environment unlike EA or 2K.
PG has the best replay options of any golf game and puts other games to shame. 9 camera angles compared to 2k25's where you have to manipulate the viewing position. EA Sports doesn't even have a replay.
You can play PG using the BLI which is a very creative option to the grid.
Unfortunately, PG was abandoned before features like being able to create your own avatar, and the option to save more than one round at a time. I would have also liked more stats such as total feet of putts made in a round. I am hoping that this game ends up like Links where there are programmers in the community knowledgeable enough to add features like the ones I mentioned and more. Finally, look at the courses on Virtual Golf 3 for Trackman and you will see what PG courses would look like today if the game had continued it's development or if Trackman ever decides to release a TM PC golf game. With those graphics and current PG features and options plus RTSM it would be a pc golf game that would appeal to people who play the real game.
