Can anybody help me out regarding trees. I like the speedtree trees but they are very expensive, so I downloaded a tree from a guy/company called Forst from the unity store. It was the white ash pack and it was $15.

After struggling to solve a problem with the tree appearing as a bright pink blob in the editor and in the game mode I now have a problem whereby it is coming out at a very low resolution.

I also tried the free terrain assets downloaded from unity and for example, the willow tree, comes out as a very low res version if I add the tree through the tree terrain painting...but if I drag the tree from the Project pane directly to the editor window it comes out hi-res. obviously I don't want to be doing it that way, as it adds every instance of the tree to the Hierarchy.

Can anyone advise me on these tree issues?

Thanks, Rob.

P.s. It is low res until I zoom in VERY close. Even in game mode it behaves the same.

First thing I'd check is that the billboard distance in the terrain inspector isn't set very low.

Thanks Shimonko, yes it was set to 5 for some reason. That fixed it. I guess that doesn't affect the speedtree models.

Still not happy with the trees I paid $15 for though. They keep changing back to pink and they are not set up right. Way too bright. Grrr...wish I could afford more speedtrees.
