Well, courses are stored locally, so internet connection (currently) doesn't matter outside the original download. The coursefiles aren't huge, but for dial-up they will probably be an issue(as in, come back later/tomorrow. Since dialup downloads roughly 20megs an hour at max speed).
For online play, I can't say for certain, we haven't tested anything in dial-up conditions and I'd be hesitant to say one way or another.

great so in other words high speed connections we have little wait while the game is loading and between holes
i used to hate having to do all the waiting on TWO

Weren't Links courses also plots.....yet had loading times?
Links didn't have loading times - the course loaded in at the start of the round.... they were rendering times, but they could sure keep you waiting if you had a slow computer!!

Lez is bang on.
The 'loading' time was the initial loading of the course (the 100% progress bar that on a courses first load also added the shadow file) and then after every shot you had the 'rendering' time, which as has been said, depending on the individuals machine dictated how long each scene took to render.
