I understand how to extract courses. When you hit the extract button the window comes up and you browse to PC/ program x86/ steam, etc. Is there a way not to have to go through that for every course, or can you see like a default location for courses. I have windows 8.1.

As far as I know no you have to do it the way you said for every course. They would have to come up with a program to do it the way you want.

just open all the folders until you get to the courses folder, then make yourself a shortcut for the course folder on your desktop, then copy and paste into that.

I use 7-zip to extract files. Here's the easiest way to do it.

Once you download the file...

- Go to downloads and Right click on the file you downloaded

- go to 7-zip

- extract files - the first time you do it you will have to browse to: c/program files(86)/steam/steam apps/common/perfect golf/courses. After the first time you just need to use the drop down menu and the first choice will be the file path you entered the 1st time.(no need to browse to the folder like you did with the 1st file) Windows will save that file path automatically and add it to the drop down menu. So the 2nd time and there after the process will be...

- Go to downloads and Right click on the downloaded file

- go to 7-zip

-extract files

-drop menu- c/program files(86)/steam/steam apps/common/perfect golf/courses

-ok

Takes all of 3 to 5 seconds.

There is no need to extract the file somewhere on your computer, then copy paste. You're just wasting space on your hard drive doing that.

Unfortunately this direct approach can fail if, for any reason the designer puts the folder within another one for any reason, or includes extra files to the zip in the future. This has happened with other games. It is always best to unzip to somewhere like the desktop first and manually move the required folder to its correct location.

^^^ yea that's true but usually it's a rare occurrence. I still think it's better my way.

If the above does happen all you need to do is browse to c/program files(86)/steam/steam apps/common/perfect golf/courses and delete the extra files or folders.

I created a shortcut to the Courses folder within the PG Steam install on my desktop.

Then after downloading the course ZIP, I extract the course folder to my desktop. Then I just drag the extracted folder on my desktop in to the Courses folder shortcut on my desktop.

No space wasting as I'm moving the file not copying it.

I only do it this way due to occasional issues like those that Acrilix refers to in his post.

There are more ways to skin this cat. its a pretty simple process. it doesnt take much time and effort.

Dc, on some unzipprigram s, you can set a defualt unpack folder...but it has some caveats, only works if the folders have all the same organisation.

I prefer to unpack to disc and verify contents, then drop it in.

btw, you can create a desktoplink straight to the coursefolder, so no need to find that one every time.

but there is no good or bad way for this as long as the result is there, hehe.

I think he's referring to Spook Rock or Ridgeway Municipal. I believe those 2 courses use a  RAR file for those courses. I could not extract it either as when you highlight the course the extract button is nowhere to be found in windows 8.1 anywhere. Do I need to get WinRar to unzip these or is there a way for windows to do it?

Yes either Winrar or Win 7 or 7 zip or  any number of other software that will handle RAR file extensions. A rar file is a zipped or compressed file but just done using a different software. You can get any of the above mentioned softwares for handling Rar  files for free just do a google search. After that just extract normally using the software.

Here is a link to make it even easier https://www.google.c...ojaHIuveMTgkaAM

Still confused?  Here is another link for how to .... http://www.howtogeek...7-and-mac-os-x/

I had no success using Winrar on those two files-I recal testing the archive and it displayed no errors but only 23kb-very odd-I just stopped trying-I have an older version of Winrar so that could have been the problem. Anyway I hope the future courses will be standardized-

23 kb?  Sounds like the download screwed up.   Spook Rock is about 110kb and Ridgeway is about 127 kb.

I'll change those to zip format in a few mins and future ones will all be zip formats.  Didn't know that rar files would cause this much problem.

the archives are over 100Mb, so maybe you did not download them correctly? Downloads can get corrupted.

try 7-zip, its free and works always fine here.

Also it might help to make a textfile where you describe for yourself the procedure to get the courses in.

Good luck

I would have thought that since everybody is using Unity to make their course that they would all be saved with the same file extension.

It  has nothing to do with how they save a file. That would have to be done in a standard way, it is  rather what ever software the designer prefers  or has on their system to compress the files when sending them to OGT. All  that a rar file is

a way of compressing or zipping a file to be sent. THe files that they make the course with will be standard extensions as otherwise the game wouldn't recognize it.  As I said it being a rar or a zip or whatever just has to do with how those files are compressed and sent to OGT.

Im far from being a computer  guru but it really shouldn't be an issue using rar files. Now if they did it as an ISO file then that would be another story.
