There's a big difference between 'a better game' and 'better in every way'. I believe I will like PG better (and I really like TW08), but I don't think it will be better in every way. A game with moving lily pads 6 years ago doesn't mean a game today automatically should have them in version 1.0. Not something as cosmetic and insignificant to golf as this. I didn't think the things moved much anyway.

Your concern that CF is harder than CA because of the slow progress of beta testers is unfounded. The beta testers are not there to pump out courses, but to test CF's operation, as well as the physics alpha, the game and terrain forge. It's pointless doing the same thing that already works 18 times to create a course.

If you understand APCD or CA, you will not have trouble with CF. If CF doesn't have drag & drop flying birds on release, then the Unity asset store might.  If they don't Unity has a relatively simple platform to create them with. If not, then you just wait until someone creates them.

Wow!!! That's all I'll say to that...

Ok, not all.. There is no game yet so what and how things act are not a concern yet, I will wait until I see something I can play, then I will do my comparisons.

As for your comments about  "slow progress of beta testers" I don't know where you came up with that, I never said anything about that.. I happen to know what it takes to beta test as I have done it myself in the past. I really don't care right now about any "courses being pumped out" there isn't even a game yet, so that is irrelevant..

As for " my concerns that CF is harder", again, I never mentioned that.. Have you ever designed 1 single course with the TW's CA?  I assure you, it's nothing like TGC or Lilnks. It takes months to design a solid course.

I have no worries about my being able to "understand" CF, I don't compare CF to TW's CA, that's not what this thread is about anyway.

It's whether or not anyone who has actually used the TW's CA and is currently beta testing the CF, could give their thoughts on the difference...

Stay on track please because going way off like this, doesn't help to answer Jim's question...

Peace

Nice to see some old friends from TW and Links, Rehit used to scare me lol, with the avatar he used as a Links admin, Mike Jones is personafied as the greatest course designer of all time, he should I guess after all he is a real Tour Pro Golfer, and no doubt has seen and played on many of the greatest courses on the planet, Links APCD was something I never come to grips with, for some reason I never put enough time into learning it, Like a number of fellow TW Golfers in this thread, I have used the Terrain Assist and collected ortho's to create quite a few courses through the years, mostly of the real course as accuratley as possible, of course the CA has many limitations, which the APCD did not, one of them was the ability to create a bunker without desturbing the mesh surrounding the green, greatest drawback of course was the 2D, compared to the 3D found in TW, unfortunatley, TW08 was the best version and the last, although I would say the water movement in the earlier versions with a bit of wind looked much better, and one could actually create their own plant set in very early versions, as the Legendary Jimbo 64 version created. I with many beta tested TWO, until I realized, I was wasting my time, trying to convince EA that Kiddie versions of a golf game was never going to catch on, and the fact they just didn't want to listen, all they were interested in was getting your money for that piece of rubbish, I joined this forum because I have friends here I have known for years, but mainly because of the Admins, who have been part of Links for years and I know that what they are doing, regardless if any of us get to Beta test or not, are going to get a serious Golf sim and not some stupid Golf game for kiddies with 24 under for 18 holes bulldust, I have been a part of the CGX as a admin and a expert player since the old PGAX started and am deeply concerned that since the site has been down for almost a week, and the owner hasn't been seen onsite for quite some time that my beloved 2nd home might be gone forever, I to have tons of time on my hands being on a disability pension and would love to be part of the testing team but I am not worried, I bought all of Mike Jones courses when I played Links and even in 2D marvelled at his expertise, as I did with Andrew Jones, Rehit and many others, mind you Links wasn't all 2D, Regardless the courses gave you the feel of not only playing the course, but actually being on the course, as did Augusta and many fine courses such as St Andrews and Kingsbarn which I played recently at the CGX, Indeed the original PGAX and later CGX, created many great courses by the Legendary design team, I played 3 click for years, but went to True Swing, as it was the only swing that truly followed the real golfer swing physics and I am hoping this will be implemented when the testers finish their testing and are ready to put out the finished product.

Just wondering if any of the testers has previously designed with the Course Architect for TW2008 and if so how does it compare?

Jim, I think you and I are probably the only 2 from the TW's series that have designed courses with the 06 CA, that are following this forum.... Since I wasn't invited to beta test and either were you, I think it's safe to say the answer is no.....

Also even though the TW's CA wasn't just a generic architect/designer, it was never as complicated as this thing seems to be... A bit much for me, probably... Just watching the slow progress of some of the beta testers, tires me out and has pretty much made me lose interest in course designing here... Talk about a huge learning curve and the hoops you have to jump thru, man.... I don't know, I may try it someday, not sure....

The thing with CF is it can be as simple or as complicated as you choose. With some skill you can create a nice course in a few hours or you can go the extra mile and create something truly unique. Our focus right now is not CF as we know it works, we know it's good it's been used by ourselves to make over 50 courses and the beta testers have also created something special with it too.

We need to focus on the gameplay aspects of PerfectGolf right now or what is the point in creating courses.

Jim and Axe I hope you fully understand this Admins comment Course Forge is going to be 10 times better than TW designer - I have made courses with TW and Hank Haney golf game and heck Jack Nicklaus golf in the Dos days but anyway ... there were some videos out about Forge and the making of a hole but they have dissappeared brb let me look for them

Ok I found it on Youtube I don't know why the Perfect Parallel has removed or hidden these videos from their website but I am sure they had good reason or I am just a moron and can't find them since the last time they changed the site - Now this video was posted 2 years ago so imagine how better course forge works now ... in my opinion there is no reason to compare TW architect to Course Forge it is like comparing a canoe that the Indians used to go down the Colorado River vs todays inflatable raft with a guide. check out this video:

Now imagine many of us seeing this 2 years ago or even as long as 1 year ago and now finally it is getting closer to Course Forge being available to the community to use it.

Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it!    Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.

If you look at my avatar, you may notice I am or was part of the PGAX design team, now known as the CGX , I have been using the TA or terrain Assist for years to create many Real courses, and continue to do so, as the site follows the US and Euro PGA tour's.

I also make my own textures,  structures and Pano's.

Am Looking forward to getting my hands on CF, still playing around with Unity.

Am so looking forward to Early access so I can get my hands on PG, but since its 10pm, have to wait till morning.

Either way will still design for TW and support the site I am an administrator at for years to come.

I agree JJ. My comments were harsh and way off track.. This is the Rolls Royce of course designers from what I now know...

Although I still haven't got my hands on the CF (been beta testing game) I have now seen what it can do and of course a new Course designer is going to be a bit daunting to me at first. After seeing what it can do though, I beleive this designer is far superior from the old CA we used for TW... This is one helluva course architect.  After a while I may get into it or may not but it won't be because this is some generic CA, far from it.. This thing is powerful from what I have seen and I think designers are going to love it!!!!

My whole point in being interested in this game was to be able to use Course Forge and if we have to wait a little bit longer then so be it. I hope that a few TW2008 course designers are selected for the next round of Course Forge testing, hint, hint.

I spent hundreds of hours in the APCD for Links, and can't wait to delve back into amateur course design.   With a community of people adding content such as textures, flora, buildings, tournament objects and more, it'll be fun to push this thing and see what it can do.

Question for devs: Will there be integration with Steam Workshop?

PS: Mike, thanks for all the great Links courses! Augusta was beautiful, and RCK kicked my butt!

Having designed courses with Links APCD and also the TW series I am looking forward to designing again with Course Forge.

Having now had a few days with the EA of PG the urge to design again is back and I would love to be involved with any future Course Forge testing - if possible.

Same here, I would much appreciate a chance to test for you guys! It would be fun to try and recreate some of the courses I built with APCD.
