I have been pondering for some time about adding a donation button to our new site, a way of showing our appreciation for the work done by those desighers who have commited and indeed still do to providing us with great courses. Example, wordpress designers who offer freebies have a donate to the designers button, "what's the difference"? Each designer agreeing would have a designated button on their games, those not interested will not.

Gary you are indeed corrent, the very reason I offered access to designers was to avoid this issue. When I get time I will attempt to alter the authors name to the designers, sure it can be done somehow.
If your database follows usual Wordpress templates you would struggle to amend the poster each time because the field in the wp_posts table for that data (most likely post_author) is linked to the wp_users.id field, meaning that you would have to add a new user for each designer and then log in as them to post or write an update script to amend your user id to the desired one based on the post id. In my opinion you'd be better off just changing the text on the template to 'posted by' and have a 'written by' line in the main text.

Hmm....not for me this, i created my tracks for fun and would not expect or accept a penny in return. But if anyone would like to donate for the courses i have created (there will be no more) then go find a poppy seller or someone collecting for sick animals etc, donate a few quid and call it quits.

Interesting idea actually..
Would be pretty neat to have course designers set up donations with a charity they really like.
I'm a huge animal advocate & lover myself & would certainly be interested in those type of donations.

ditto... if you feel you must part with your money, pay it forward to a charitable organisation near you.
Consider everything that is both free and enjoyable to be donationware anyway, and please share your surpluses with the many who deserve a bit of support.

I'm on the fence with this one. Unity charges $20 a month just for
the privilege of possibly designing your own trees, and they also
charge a high amount just to purchase a tree. I just don't see the harm
in a designer making a dollar or 2 for a whole course. A negotiable
thank you would be an astounding surprise for someone who has
to stretch a dollar, like me. On the other hand, I might feel a bit guilty
accepting a contribution knowing how much fun I had trying to design anything
that anyone would want to play. I hope I don't sound like a narcissistic asshole,
but at this point in time, my favorite charity is me.

I guess I just don't see the issue in throwing some coin to builders as a thank you...optionally of course.
Slippery slope implies you think it will get out of control and lead to some bad outcome?

I can imagine donating directly to a designer if it is a great classic real course. Pebble Beach, Bethpage, Carnoustie or St. Andrews? I would probably donate for that. Or for courses of PGA venues. Tournament play would greatly benefit from playing the same courses as the pros.

The majority if not all course designers do not accept money for their work and most will object to someone else making money from them.
This have been true for just about every golf sim I've seen for the last 30 years. So let's not go down this road about donating money.

Why not have a button? I ignore plenty of donation buttons already. I can think of only 2 apps I've donated to and that is because I was truly greatful for the added value they provided.

I agree with the slippery slope comment. I have seen in the past where people started charging for their courses in other games. Sometimes you ended up with a great course - like Mike Jones - but a lot of times you'd pay and have a bad course design.
I believe that Unity has a store where you maybe can sell assets. I could see people charging for textures, objects, etc. that they have spent time making but I think the whole idea of having a course designer is to encourage people to make courses and if they choose to share them with others they should be free.
I am very excited to design some courses and I'm sure my first few will not be anything great and so I probably won't share them but as I get better at it I may feel good about a course I've designed and decide to share it. Whatever time I spend designing a course would be time I wanted to spend, not time I would spending expecting to be compensated for.

Simple question, whats the difference to providing competitions and asking for a donation, as providing courses people enjoy and want to play? less the emotive responces would be cool, and those designers against need not respond as i understand and respect your postition.

i personaly have no prob donating to a designer who creaies courses of quality-- ther's lot of work and time involved--if a creater not want donation just not have donation butten to hit---sounds simple to me -

Nothing you said is a particularly cogent argument against having an optional donation button.
If some designers don't want to accept donations/tips that's totally fine… But that shouldn't mean nobody can.
It takes a lot of time and effort to make courses and I'm happy to reward people who do a great job at it.

I especially won't for a real course as I would be opening myself up to licensing / copyright issues.

Totally - Definitely a "tip jar" type of model and certainly not a "pay for the course" type of thing as, to your point, there are loads of issues w/ that.
