Last month I started getting stuttering to the point where the game was unplayable.  Tough to achieve good tempo in RTSM when it is stuttering as I pull my club back.  For whatever reason the stuttering stopped on its own after a few days until it returned yesterday.  As in the first case I had not made any changes to my graphic settings.

Yesterday I did a verification of my files and the following message came up:

4 files failed to validate and will be reacquired.

It then did some kind of update and when I did another verification all the files checked out.  As of today the game is still stuttering so I made sure my video card, a GEForce GTX 960 was updated.  What I am wondering is if I should download and install the new driver?

In the GEForce control panel it is referred to as a Game Ready Driver with a release date of July 14 2016, version 368.81

I seem to recall some posts on the forum by other people with Nvidia cards installing a driver which actually negatively impacted their graphics.

Any suggestions or comments concerning my problem and also whether installing the new driver might fix my issue would be much appreciated.

I've been getting stuttering since the last patch a month or so ago ... before that patch it was silky smooth for me on very high settings, now even if I bring the setting down to low it still stutters.

I can deal with a lot irks and quirks in a game but stuttering isn't one of them, it's annoys me most when it happens.

I've tried all the in game tweaks to get it stutter free but it ain't happening sadly and my system is no slouch, I can play other graphically demanding games on ultra without hassle.  I've monitored how much ram this game wants and it certainly doesn't get anywhere near my 16gb available so I'm at a loss.

Sorry I can't give you any help buddy but I'm in the same boat :(

I believe it's their newly implemented anti-cheat.  It works so well with the 3-click that they implemented into RTSM.

Anti cheat for RTSC is not in 1.4.1.0.  There currently is no anti cheat in RTSM unless you consider tempo to be the anti cheat.

I was having stuttering problems until I tried the suggestion to limit the number of courses in the course folder. I haven't had any problems since. I didn't change any settings.

I will test that theory too but considering I have more than enough ram (16gb) and my main hard drive is an EVO 500 SSD there shouldn't be an issue regards loading times or reading course data ... plus, I have the same amount of courses before the last patch and it was silky smooth.

It's too much of a coincidence that my JNPG golfing experience goes from delightful to spluttering overnight after a patch release :(

I have 16 GB of RAM too and only have about 30 courses installed. I have had the game since August 2015 and did not have any issues with stuttering until last month.

Stuttering:   CPU over taxed and/or very high Ping to ISP.

I've an i5  4460 3.2 on a Gigabyte gaming board, I'm on a 20mb connection with a ping of between 20 and 40ms.
I can run WOT, Elite and Starcraft 2 on Ultra with no issues.
Sapphire ATI R9 270X gas cooled card installed.

Before last patch I had the settings on high with no stuttering.
After last patch stuttering appeared even if settings set to low.

Something not adding up.

Just blindly throwing a dart here.  When's the last time you unplugged your cable modem, let it sit for 120 seconds and plugged it back in?

Thanks but I've already tried re-syncing, even opened the ports and used fixed ip on pc. I do a lot of online gaming with friends and never have an issue with any other games, also, my house is only 800 yards from the main exchange so I've always had rock solid broadband.

I don't know if re-syncing means unplugging, but cool.

First take an Internet Speed test to see your PING and jot it down.   Then unplug the power cord to the Modem* for two to three minutes (power off PC too).  After plugging the Power Cord into the Modem wait until you get your proper lights appearing then Power On the computer.

*Modem/Router combos may have backup batteries. You'll need to remove the batteries to be certain there is no power going to the Modem.

At this point take a second Speed Test and check the PING/Latency.  See if there is any difference in PING, Download/Upload speeds.

This is the universal Ookla speed test.   Test Internet Speed

Have any of you decreased the graphics in PG to very low to see if that makes a difference?  If it does it's most likely your GPU and/or CPU is just not powerful enough to render the game in higher qualities.

Meaning, your GPU or CPU is already too busy to handle the game's graphics.

I won't go into malware to a great extent but something could be running in the background that needs to be removed.  Not to mention all the bloatware a MFG of computers includes in their machines.  Best buy Windows 10 from Microsoft Store download an ISO and burn it onto a DVD or setup a USB Flash Drive for installing a clean Windows 10 OS.

Note: Just remember to go to your MFG's site and download the Network Adapter Driver and save it to a USB Drive.  After you do a clean installation of  Windows 10 OS insert the Flash Drive into a slot and install the Network Adapter Driver. Connect to the Internet and off you go!  Yo have pristine system. NOTHING is worth saving in an MFG's software bundle.  Whatever you need is available on the Internet.

If you have never installed a clean Windows Operating System in your life, then take my and any other professionals advice to heart.  A clean OS with no OEM junkware is always the best way to go.

If it's overwhelming to think about this undertaking then contact someone who can connect to you after you have installed your clean OS and let them customize the system to your liking.

I am starting to think that the issue is caused by the Garbage Collector. (A C# App thing)

Could be something like that Andrew, I remember back when Halflife 2 was released, Valve ran into a similar issue with certain updates, it created a problem that players affected nicknamed 'micro-stutters / micro-freezes', it didn't affect everyone and it took them awhile to get to the bottom of it but as far as I can remember it was a problem with their own 'Source' engine ... one temporary fix was to change the framerate to 61fps instead of the standard 60, can't remember why that worked but it did, I'm not a programmer but man I can remember the complaints and arguments over it affecting so many players, even on very high spec machines, one minute everything was smooth and then straight after a patch 'bang', stuttering, the forums were a volatile place for a while.

Crusher - You make some excellent points in your post, it makes good practice to do exactly as you've posted and I wish it was as simple as that but in my case it's not. I've been building pc's for near on 20 years and always do clean installs, I usually re-install every 6 - 12 months depending on what my main pc is being used for.

In fact as soon I do a clean install and put on updates, drivers etc and everything is running as it should I create an image on a second hard drive that can be re-installed in 10 minutes, I then install the programs and games and create another image once all programs and games are running perfectly, this gives me the choice of two re-constructs if needs be, easy to do and saves a lot of time later, if I install new hardware another image is made etc ... you get the idea.

I'm confident the dev's will suss it out one way or another.

@gravedodger

If only everyone would read your steps (identical to mine as well) and make System Images in these stages. I too, for nearly 20 years have been building and supporting Windows PC owners through online remote support.

I do not write code, I use scripts and tools to repair Windows remotely. In my experiments over the past two years I have found that CPU AMD 8350 (8 cores) or less will cause the meter to stutter (in this game only). However, the Intel i5 4690K (4 cores) handles this game wonderfully.
