I vaguely remember reading in previous CF threads that aiming for a Tris count of less than 3m Tris when viewing in game panel, i.e the camera view, and pressing stats.
Is this still a good guide, and does the fps shown have any degree of accuracy?
Does the game view take into account any LOD effects, or is the figure displayed a raw value based on all assets at highest LOD?

Yea, LOD is taken into account and 3 million is the magic number. I don't know about the fps. I've never used it as so many game settings can have an effect.

3 mil tris is not a hard limit but it's a helpful guide when assessing the performance of some of the plantings on the course.
