Click on your Normal map, Look in the inspector and make sure "texture type" is set to normal map

I have a sand texture that looks real good. I went and created a normal map for it and I like the texture I get from it. My problem is when applying in Unity it changes the sand color from sand color to dirt brown. Any ideas?

If you Edit the texture, there is a slider called Metallic. This will make your texture dark if slider is pushed to right. May be other causes, but check this one out.

Screenshot of your layers library would really help.
