Re:  Consoles

Not only should it work on consoles, but I'd argue that graphical improvements like 3D grass are basically prerequisites to a successful release on a console.  The console crowd is used to great visuals, so the more the better (especially when it's not hitting FPS hardly at all)

I can't get over how AWESOME those screenshots are....

Ditto, what a transformation it makes!

I think I might have just popped a woody.

That looks... incredible!!  This plus mocapped animations will push JNPG into a place I'm not sure I ever imagined it could be so congrats to the dev team for the vision!  Excellent!

Ditto....think when we get to DX ll and Unity 5.5 with enhanced lighting and all the improvements that come with that move....

It's marginal as it's a DX 11 onwards only feature so the GPU will take care of the extra rendering. I didn't lose more than 2 FPS from my normal frame rate during initial testing.

I think this is the most stunning part.....awesome!

Just thinking aloud.

With the new 3D grasses, will there be a stimp setting called BRAZILIAN?

PS: Once this comes to a public build, TGC can officially GTFO in my opinion.

Apologies in advance if my post causes any undue offence/distress.

Oh Mebby.

I've had a long day at work but cannot stop laughing at you popping a woody.

ROTFLMAO

MJ,

A long way down the road, but what will existing user made courses have to do to get the 3D grasses?

Is it a complicated process?

Obviously doable if stock courses are getting a makeover.

This looks really good so far and will definitely bump JNPG up to 2017 standards!  I'm curious about the variety of Turf Effects grass heights.  In the screens Mike provided, I'm seeing what looks like a transition from 2-D fringe to 3-D heavy rough.  Would the fringe or light rough not be tall enough to warrant it's own proportionally scaled 3-D Turf Effects textures?

LOL!  I'm not quite ready to completely throw in the towel on TGC.  I'll definitely buy TGC2 just to see how it compares to TGC1 but in all honesty... after the latest update, JNPG is playing exactly the way I'd want a golf video game to play.  The only thing holding it back from damn near perfection is 3D grass, DX11 enhancements (most lighting) and mocapped animations.  All of of which are obviously cosmetic and ALL of which are not only on the radar but apparently coming sooner (four letter word in these parts) rather than later.  Once those things drop - I  just can't imagine playing anything BUT JNPG.

I think TGC is a great game in its own right and TGC2 will be better for sure.  But TGC and JNPG are just worlds apart in how they play.  Some will prefer one over the other but for me... it's quickly shaping up to be 100% JNPG all way for my serious golf and TGC about 20% of the time for relaxed arcade golf.

@Mebby:

What is this "TGC" you speak of?

Would that be "The Goldentee Club"?

;)  :D

Oh Hell! I think I'm going to wet myself with excitement. Glad I upgraded to a DX 12 GPU now. Absolutely stunning.

Can't wait for this to be released!

Ditto....could not have stated my thoughts better. Recognize TGC and what they have accomplished. At least over here we can have rational discussions about this and other Golf games. Recognize PG for going farther to achieve realistic, simulation-like play for those wanting that while also being approachable for newcomers. Really excited to see this game and community moving forward!

Looking again at the pics (now I'm home and on computer, compared to earlier on my phone) is it just the rough that is 3D or is it also the greens, fringes, fairways, first cuts and semi rough?

The rough grass in the pics looks awesome, but just curious if the whole terrain gets the 3D love or just the longer grass?

Mike, will it be possible to have the ball sit up or sink down in us open type rough as to have to hit a wedge out or have a flyer? Also to have the ball lay with the grass or against the grass?

My guess is Q1 2017... but I wonder if they would release a Windows 10 version, Unity 5.5 version of the game and not have new, hi-res, mo-capped golfers as part of the package.  It would sort of be like putting baby moons on a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta to have Hacker Harry in a Windows 10/DirectX 11/Unity 5.5/Turf Effects version of the game :D
