So here's a problem for you techies: I have this intermittent problem that will do this all at one time when in te middle of  a game (whether solo or multi) - 1. Take out all the cams except the main player cam   2. Totally disable chat where you can't talk anymore  3. If you're recording a game it will stop recording (or at least there will be NO REC file produced).

I always thought it was my old Vista causing  this but a couple of days ago I got a laptop (see below) and thought this was now fixed. Found out this morning I was wrong when I was playing a game and recording all of a sudden lost cameras.

Now my question: What would take out cams, chat and recording. Could something attached to computer (router, outgoing phone line)? What can I check?  Did anyone else run into this problem?

Any ideas?

(This has been going on for a long time, maybe a year or so)

This will probably be a decent educated guess.  It sounds to me like you are using some type of free anti-spyware program that doesn't play well with JNPG.

Other than that, it's anyone's guess.

Been using Norton Internet Security for years, but may not be a bad idea to go on their forum, explain problem and maybe someone can come up with an idea.

Forget that idea - different computers, different firewall etc setup. Maybe router firewall.

same card here, i7 16gb ram

game runs fine for me.

Norton sucks never had any luck with it, seemed to

always lead me into fixes for programs to just be able to run through norton.

most isps and the biggest nowadays provide the Mcafee suite , must be a reason.

Tonight I realised that occasionally I use "silent mode" when playing (as with Vista). Suppose to help with game play or something like that. Then another thought popped in (I try to think sometimes): What does silent mode do exactly? Below is a definition I got off of their forum. That word "suppresses" kinda stuck out! Think it's possible?

"The silent mode of Norton Anti-Virus temporarily stops background processes and suppresses notifications or security alerts. The anti-virus software will still protect your computer from malware while it is in silent mode, but you won't receive any popups, and the software won't conduct any background scans."

I have the same option on eset and it doesn't affect the game adversely. As it says it's supposed to just stop background activities that could produce a spike and perhaps result in a stutter or similar.

So, I'm guessing if you disable your Norton the cameras in game come back?

urrgh norton! I don't know how many people actually have an antivirus program running when gaming, but in over 20 years of being connected to the world wide web i have never had a virus on any of my systems, some random spyware once in a while but never a virus....and guess what...i use a free antivirus that is rarely activated.  It's never running when i'm playing a game or even browsing, the only time i enable it is when i download music and karaoke ( i'm a DJ ) I don't use torrent or any other file sharing programs, i pay for my music from a trusted site, my karaoke is downloaded from another pay for site and i always run these files thru my AV then switch it off.  Bottom line is if you run a game on top of any AV, especially something like norton, then you are asking for issues, more trouble than its worth.

I gotta agree with Dogz.  I use Windows Defender and I don't surf for porn.  Zero viruses here.

Years ago I used Norton and hated it. Resource HOG!! When my sub ran out, I went to MS Essentials and haven't looked back. I love it, also use Free Malwarebytes. No reason I can see, to pay for any of it.. ;)

Good points above - lots of thought food, thanks.

I might disable Norton and go with Defender for a while and see how that goes. Is there any port forwarding or is it plug and play?

IIRC Norton was always seen as resource hog and not recommended where any form of online gaming was concerned.
Like others I run with Win 10 Microsoft Defender.

OMG!  A gamer with Norton?!    Not good Pappy.  Get rid of that resource hog completely. In fact, go to Norton www.norton.com and download their Norton Removal Tool.  Norton is infamous for leaving traces of itself scattered around in the system, their own removal tool will take it all out of the system.  Be sure to disable any future automatic payments as well.  WE are not kidding about getting rid of that program.

I suggest go with the Trial Version of www.malwarebytes.com .  The 15 day trial version will give you both anti-malware and anti-virus protection.

They began a new compaign on listing almost every free and pay-for Windows Utilitiies program as a PUP.   The only program that we all use that is best to clean your system of junk is CCleaner.  MBAM and CCleaner, you have two light weight programs doing super job.

Ok today I uninstalled Norton and installed Defender. Also downloaded the free Malwarebytes and CCleaner (Which I have in Vista) but want a decent free (for starters) something similar to paid version of Malwarebytes. Can do a little googling. As this problem isintermittent might take a while. Thanks for comments.
