I cannot get my wedge shots to spin back. It works quite well with short irons but not with the wedges.

In general: How can i influence the spin rate of a shot? For instance when i want to attack a short flag. Fly it further and then spin it back towards the hole.

When i'm watching golf in TV the commentators talk often about the importance of spin control with the wedges. So far i cannot see an option in the game that influences that.

Hi frank, the system we use is based around the real world ball flight physics - ok so you say - 'what does that mean to me!'  :D

There are a few things you need to know:

The harder you hit a normal shot (if you hit it purely) the more spin you will generate. So hitting full shots into greens at past 100% will maximise your spin.

Adding more loft will not necessarily add more spin.

Where the ball lands has an effect on how the ball spin is translated into movement on the ground. If you ball lands on a downslope and the ball shoots forward a lot of the spin will come off the ball, conversely hitting into an upslope will give the ball the best chance of grabbing and backing up. Splash shots carry much much more spin than chips from greenside bunkers.

Course firmness makes a difference. When you set up a game you can choose how firm the course is playing, try dialing it back to 1 for softer greens.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike. But how do we perform for instance pitch shots, that bite after the third hop?

You having been a pro of course you know, that spin isn't only dependable of strengh of swing. Angle of club impact, or position or the ball in the stance are factors as well. Do you plan to implement such factors into the game in the future?

By the way: I love your concept of the mouse swing and the ball flight physics are top notch. Great work!

We are constantly working on adding in more and more flexibility into the physics engine to allow these types of shot you mention. IRL the differences that allow one ball to bounce forward and the other to spin back or grab are tiny and can rest on an imperfection or small slope the ball lands on. In other words it's very unpredictable.
