Sigh The silly American broadcasters STILL with the erroneous double eagle saying. How can they be hired to talk about golf when they themselves do not know the terms? A double eagle would be -4 hence it is wrong and non negotiable! Good grief...

Only 3 of the 10 had to hit a wood for their second shots. Modern equipment is ruining the game.

Bear, still harping about that?! It's about communication - English has ton of words with double meanings, slang words and words that are not proper etc. Americans has trunk, Brits has boot etc. Bottom line: when someone says double eagle it doesn't mean he needs glasses or he made -4 on a hole (hole in one on a par 5 the only way)! The only reason I can see for you still complaining about it is you're desperately trying to make a point.

I feel like we've already had this conversation once in another thread...
And I feel like I pointed out that some very notable non-American broadcasters also use this term (in the same video mind you). The term may not technically make sense but everyone knows what it means. Even us dumb Americans.

The one that sticks in my craw is when they say, "that's his fourth reception of the night"... and the game is being played in the middle of the day. I'm amazed at how frequently this happens.
Or how about during a basketball game, and the announcers say "and that cuts the lead to five points with 7:22 to go in regulation!" Since when has there ever been more than 5 minutes in overtime? If there's more than 5 minutes on the clock, do they really need to distinguish the fact that we're in regulation? It's like they're trying to subconsciously prime you to be ready for overtime so you'll be more likely to hang around to the end of the game in case it happens.

This one I find less egregious as many viewers may be casual and not know the length of overtime.
Announcing the game this way makes it crystal clear where the game is at and sort of adds to the drama, etc.

Is this a moan about the commentators thread now?!
It really bugs me when they say "that's the first time... since..."
Well, if it happened before then it isn't the bloody first time..... end of!

I can only imagine the power, speed and agility of future athletes with future equipment in sports that require striking a ball with a bat, club, racquet etc.
It will be mind boggling to us old timers but the younger athletes will take with a a grain of salt.
