If the wind is to tough, play with calm conditions,...this will get you close to how the earlier versions played

Well I for one like the new wind model.

Now you have to think about things again (ie put some effort back into the game).

I agree it probably needs tweaking a little for the short game shots but that is all.

For me the game has a new lease of life.

I agree with this sentiment about the wind so far.

It's nice to have some refreshment to the game wind/thought process, especially as it relates to shot distance.

I'm not skilled & experienced enough to know if it's real world accurate as it is now, so I defer to others on that.

I don't have a problem with the wind, I would just like the ability to be able to practice in wind conditions so I can get an understanding of the effect the wind has. This is only possible when I can view the swing etc I have made to be able to understand. At present I cannot set up a practice and get strong wind conditions and as stated previously, with RTS you get NO feedback at all when playing in tourney set up. 3C can see if they missed snap or anything else that might be effecting the flight path. Without practice mode I cannot. That is the issue I have and would like to be able to get some information on why it is not working for me. Do I need to set something up differently reset something or do something else to get it to work?

Just an update - need to turn off real time weather to get the settings to work

regards

Briarfox, I am an RTSM player and I assume you are new to the game.  If you set up a round in Practice mode you get feedback after every shot, specifically, the ratio, offset and swing path.  In addition you can set WHATEVER wind velocity you wish to practice in and course conditions, such as the firmness of the fairways and the stimp.

In practice mode you can also place the ball wherever you want on the course and select specific holes to play.  For example, place it in a greenside bunker to practice splash shots.  Finally, you could set your practice round for unlimited mulligans.

Practice mode and the driving range are the only two instances where you will get feeback on your swing.  You never get feedback when playing an "actual" round and certainly not in a tournament.

when you set up a practise session  you cannot change the wind direction it always comes over your shoulder no mate how many times you change the number.

The way I set the game up is as follows:

From the lobby 'create' game, pick whatever course, then under game filter select 'practice' (1 click to the left), select wind type as 'Stormy' or any other wind option (a good idea is set mulligans to 'on' for practice on shots) and any other conditions you like. When you start game you will find wind comes from different directions on different holes (as it would playing a normal round) and you dont have to set numbers in the wind option menu.

After every shot you will get feedback from the swingmeter.

Incorrect.  It is definitely NOT intuitive, can be quite confusing and takes some practice to get a grasp of how it works.  Essentially you input the estimated number of degrees plus or minus between 0 and 180 to move the wind in the direction you wish.  i.e. for a 12:00 tailwind or 6:00 headwind you would input +/- 90 into the wind direction box to get a left/right crosswind.  To add more confusion the +/- amount is relative to the default wind direction set by the course designer.  The wind direction will still fluctuate somewhat around the main direction, it does not remain static.

If you choose Practice as your game filter and go to any course, usually Woody's or OGT Combine are best for practising, when the game opens up you have 2 icons on screen in the bottom left. The golf ball icon allows you to move the ball to a new location. The mortar board hat brings up the practice options where you can change wind direction, wind speed and the hole you wish to be taken to.

So, you cannot change the wind direction on the practice range, but you can if you choose to practice within the Solo Play menu's.

Tried playing with the low camera turned on as suggested in the PGLS soundscript thread.  Very interesting view that is and definitely closer to the ball compared to the new normal view.  FOV in the low camera is currently set to 36 rather than 45 in the normal player view.  First impression was that it was too close!  I actually found the sweet spot in this view to be? - yes you've guessed it 45 for my monitor setup.

So I am in a situation where the stock low camera is too close and CLAUSTROPHIC (hope I got the spelling right that time) and the normal player cam is too far away and find my sweet spot is 38-40 (down from the current 45).

Hope I eventually get some control over the FOV issue sooner rather than later (or at least additional presets) .

@Mailman:

Your experience echoes mine with the low camera.

It's interesting I guess, but I personally find it to be a mostly wasted view...just too low.

It sounds like some use and enjoy it though, so that's good to hear.

I'm all for lots of view options as it's very subject to personal preference and your exact setup, etc.
