Mike, I don't know what to say but WOW, you really are an artist! I didn't remember that Links courses were that good. Or maybe I haven't played your courses in my past. They really look much nicer than today's courses. So much detail and so beautifull landscapes. All in harmony and balance. You can see from every screen shot that your heart thoroughly is in the game! :o

Every screen shot of those Links courses could be a painting on my home wall. I even thought that I might create few canvas paintings of those screens. There is also a history of golf games in them. Just amazing :) .

I still have all the unlocked APCD files so maybe it'll happen at some point.

Mike. Reading this thread gave me the idea to try my old Links 2003 game. I installed the game, went to a Links website for a patch download that is supposed to allow the game to run on Windows 10, but to no avail. I've tried running as admin and in Windows XP 3 compatibility and still no luck. Is it possible to run Links 2003 on Windows 10 or not? Thank you!

Yes, Links runs under Windows 10 for most people, but make sure you install the game and patches with elevated administrative privileges.

If you are not running v1.05, you need that update first:  http://www.linkscoun... ... e_page.htm

Once running v1.05, update to v1.07:  http://linkscorner.o...s/Links_107.zip

Then, apply the nVidia/Win7-10 fix:  http://www.lspn.net/..._win7_FINAL.exe

I suggest running the game with elevated privileges after you have installed it as well.

Thank you! Is elevated privileges different from Administrative  permission's  or is it the same?

This is something we should have had in PG1.

I remember the first time I played Las Joyas and thought to myself I have just played the best video course ever and still feel that way. Would pay whatever to have that course on here as along with Tall Pines Estate my favorite two of all time.

I always thought Tall Pines Estate was a better Augusta. That short par 4 on the front 9 of Los Joyas (4?) is one of my all time favorite video golf holes.

I think we're talking the same thing, but to be sure, right-click on the EXE files and choose "Run as Administrator" when you install the game and the patches.  Make sure they install to the same folder and I'd suggest changing the shortcut for Links so that it always "Run as Administrator".

PS - I sent you a PM over at Links Corner regarding the Links Library courses.

Wow, based on those screenies, sadly, I'd say we've gone backwards in terms of realistic appearance of these courses...

Yes and no - Links was 2.5D, photos with transparency masks that always rotated to face you, so they're always going to be pretty much photographic quality. But a tree that looks the same from all directions isn't that realistic looking. Nor are trees that don't move with the wind or look the same as lighting changes.

WGT is the ultimate example of this - a courses is thousands of photos and they look great in screenshots, but the compromises during play are massive, including totally unrealistic bounces.

JNPG could indeed look better than Links by similarly having all trees as photos on 2.5D billboards. In fact, I'm surprised no-one has done one like it (as far as I know) - could have been a killer in the par 3 comp.

I remember having a conversation with Chris Jones who back then was head of the Links game Studio discussing the possibility of easing the EULA for Links 2003 so we could sell courses and that's what transpired. Links 2001 was pretty much like PG in that it was for non commercial use only. Links 2003 was last in the line so it's easy to draw conclusions to why that was...

You could have been Jones, Jones and Jones.

I guess TruGolf/E6 would be TM/JNPG's biggest competition now in the simulator market. But word on the street is that JNPG/Virtual Golf is the best.  :)

I wonder if there isn't hidden away in a vault somewhere the documentary "The making of LINKS: The Challenge of Golf".  That would be awesome.
