4 more holes to go with the bunkers..just a very intense process, but worth it!

Man!! This is a Masterpiece for sure. Absolutely stellar. This baby is going to be an instant favorite of many. The colors are so good. Another great example of a fictional course defying realism!

Those are incredible bunkers. What is your process to create those lips?
Posted 10 February 2019 - 08:21 PM
a process for the insane..use mesh editor to create an .obj from the bunkers, export out to blender.
use blender to move verts and faces around to get irregular bunker edges. check uvs, export as .fbx
reimport back into unity
use splat painter to color the mesh .fbx
use mesh editor to assign properties sand and rougn,...each bunker can take one half hour.
this course has 128 bunkers
not for the light of heart and Im starting to lose my shhhhhhiiiiiiiiittttttt@@#^#%^&**^$##@@@!@#@@!!!!!!!!!!

But that's the way milestones are getting built! The longer it takes - the better it'll become.
Rob, don't hurry. PG players are tested in waiting...
Again: Great and revolutionary work!

You're not insane Rob, you are a perfectionist. And a great artist. Now beware: great art can lead to insanity! Other than that ..It is absolutely positively beautiful!

Oh, it's that easy! As soon as I read the word Blender in your response I felt the air of hope that I might be able to do this disappear from my body! Thanks for sharing your process.
It wonderful that you and other designers have the know how to manipulate unity and other programs to create these beautiful courses.
Baby steps for me at the moment.

Well,...its a chore,..and as I feared, now getting crashes at 30 percent loading of game. Once you get to a certain amount of splines, and a huge file size, the crashes start.
now having to back track to previous project saves....so things slowing down and lost 3 hours work. Not too bad because I anticipated this. Had similar issues with the glen when approaching 550 meg file size with multiple splines/bunkers.
So now its just a few bunkers, save and test in game,...back up project and go from there. Cant do hours work without testing so now back in 4th gear.
Rob C...if your attempting this stuff for Pacific dunes, mnake sure you backup the project every nite, and also on a thumbdrive in case the computer HD crashes. once you get to the 14 th hole,..go slow and test out in game. delete all "greyed out " hidden splines also.

Dr Rob, is there a 3rd party script or something that needs to be deleted as well? I tried exporting a bunker mesh out and importing the.fbx back in again, and deleted the spline but couldn't get the course to compile, so I reverted back to previous version. Would you know what causes this?

Reading about your progress in building this masterpiece i'm in awe of the whole proces. Very impressive. Your reward will be that this course will be around for a very long time. It's sheer beauty is reason enough for that.
