This game is not going to magically disappear just because PG/TM has washed their hands of it. The last patch removed the need to log on to their severs for piracy checks making it playable offline into the future. All peer to peer multiplayer, as always, is done through Steam servers and I don't believe Steam is going to shut their doors any time soon.

No kidding?  I totally missed that..

Do all 3rd party courses now work with no internet connection also?

Yes. That's reading between the lines since even the DLC courses are now free. Which is what the patch would of been for, to bypass their server logon to unlock the game content.So I would presume their servers are already offline so to speak.

I'm now playing WGT.

My gaming PC succumbed to the sea air quite a while ago so I bought an All-In-One HP (everything enclosed and safe in the monitor if you didn't know). It runs PG at about 13 fps which is sort of playable using RTSM; but what's the point playing PG.

Anyway, the thing I like about WGT is you can get a multiplayer game within a minute - something that PG lacked. I would still be playing PG if my dream of an ELO was in place - even at 13 fps. The resolution of the photos in WGT is not great and grids are annoying but at least I'm not out on the course solo.

I would get a gaming PC for Mount and Blade 2 or something but I never considered doing that for PG1. Sad, I suppose.

For the first time in a couple of years, I fired up PG to play a game.  I loaded up Arcadia Bluffs (3D grass version); I have never tried a reflective or 3DG course, knowing that my machine is under-powered - and that's probably why I haven't played in the last couple of years.  As I took my RSTH swing, the game stuttered a bit so I open the console (F8) during ball flight and realized my FPS was 7.....  I made it through one hole (dbl bogey) before I shut the game down and started looking at new computers.....

My current system:

GPU: AMD Radeon ™ R9 200 Series
VRAM: 2048 MB, GDDR5 1400 MHz
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 4 Cores
RAM: 24 GB, Dual Channel (128 bit) DDR3-SDRAM

I have no idea what to buy (or build) - I feel so out of touch with this stuff.  I was looking at the builds at PCMR, but I quickly got overwhelmed with all the choices so I turned on a movie instead (Contagion, which I hadn't seen before).

:lol:

Your cpu is equal with my R5 1600 I had.im still using a gtx 1060.i had no issues playing this game.i think a good gpu upgrade will make it very playable if you not wanting to spend much money.

@Armand

Speaking from personal experience, that old AMD GPU is your issue.

Your CPU is actually still fantastic and more than capable.

But you need to pair it with a new AMD GPU (RX 5500 XT or better) or an NVIDIA GPU that's a GTX 1060 or better.

I'm personally on a 5600 XT right now and it handles PG mostly perfectly unless you get up to 4k and are on more intensive courses (in terms of foliage and 3DG, etc)

@Armand if you get a 1060 make sure it's a 6GB not a 3GB.Don't bother with a 1050 at this point.

You picked one of the worst darn courses to come back and play. What he did I have no idea but it is so laggy even with my system that it's ridiculous. He also has some spotlight on the golfer that makes his face and pants shine so badly. That course should have never even been released in it's current condition.

Interesting point actually..

What would you say is a great course example that is very performant and has 3DG?

(I'm sort of drawing a blank myself without going into the game later and perusing my list)

Thanks for the input, guys ... it's good to know I don't necessarily need an entire new computer.  I'm going to need to do some research on my PSU and the space available in the case for a new GPU.  The current one seems large, so I don't think physical space will be an issue; I am a bit concerned about the PSU at the moment....

Thanks for the insight on that course, Joe.  I'm not sure other 3Dg courses would be much better, but until I get (at least) a new GPU, I might try a few others for comparison.

 This looks like a good replacement. It triples your current GPU benchmarks. (assuming you have the R9 270) It uses 210 watts and recommends a 650 watt system power supply.

One caveat...it doesn't have the old RGB connectors like the R9 270, so you'll need a HDMI compatible monitor.

Armand, there are two versions of Arcadia Bluffs.  The version by Rob C runs fine.  The other one is by a designer who's courses always seem to have issues including FPS.  Check out the one by Rob C as it is a very good rendition.

In regards to 3D grass I don't have any FPS issues with 99% of them.

You got my curiosity up and I tried this one out.i did have low frame rates (high 20s-low30s)on a majority of the holes but sometimes it was ok 60 or more.but even on the low fps it ran smooth and didn’t studder for me.

You must obviously have a better system than me or run in 1080p. Even I could play that course in 1080p by not in 4k at 3840x2160..lol

Or you could just have a GTX 1080 card which is much better than mine.

Yep, R9 270 and HDMI not an issue (the R9 is connected to my 1080p Panasonic plasma TV - which is also on its last legs).  It seems all my electronics are soon needing replacement!

I haven't had much free time to give any other a try.  Knowing I had limited GPU resources, I kept the non-3dg versions installed of all such courses.   So when I find some time, it should be easy to pick the other version.

I have a R5 3600x- GTX 1060 6g.Yes playing at 1080.. Im a little GPU bottle necked now as my card now is hitting pretty much 100%.. With my R5 1600 it wasn't like that..but it still played with pretty much with no problems..
