While we all know licensing issues ensue when creating games and having to create generic or misnamed brands to bring more authenticity to a game... this leads me to my question of will there be an ability for us to make mods for the game at a later point? I know you are having the hang up issue with the course editor requiring people to own a licensed copy of Unity. I was just curious if this would even be doable because I see it really opening the game up to even more realism. I've seen what the mod communities can do for games like MLB 2K12, Madden 08, Mortal Kombat, Skyrim, etc... and it's pretty amazing what a little added content can do to really immerse you into the game even more.

Regardless, extremely impressed with the product so far and a huge THANKS for bringing golf back to the PC where it belongs! B)

Things have a nasty habit of blowing out of proportion and before we know it, the whole world will think PP expects you to buy a $1500 program to make courses. So it's worthwhile pointing out it's not a hang up issue with CF requiring the pro version to make a course, it's more a 'can you hold the line as this is going to take a bit of work to get around'.

Modding is always doable, including right now, it's just a matter of how easy it is made for anyone who wants to do it. In time people will do step-by-steps on how to do certain things if PP don't incorporate what people are wishing.

So, is the issue that if we make a course with CF, and it gets picked up say by PP, that will violate the ULA for using the free version of Unity for personal non-commercial projects?

I can see that as being an issue, ya.. I mean if people are building cool courses and they're being uploaded and used in CC's and other players, new players coming to the game because of those cool course. I suppose Unity could say, ya... well you're making money from the players creating courses using the single license version so someone owes us some coinage.

If that were the case....

What if PP were to buy like a 10,000 seat license package and bundle it with CF? ... well that's prolly not goin' to happen...right?

Modding? Modding what and how?  To the best of my knowledge you can't offer modding to Unity games without using the Pro license, modder's would have to buy one. If that's changed... cool...  ;)

On a more positive note, the trailer for Age of Ultron looks friggin' cool...

The hurdle is how a course is exported from Unity/CF to the game - how all the textures and course objects get bundled together into a secure, efficient, downloadable 'course file'. Unity Pro has a built-in way of doing this. Unity Free doesn't so PP have to write their own bundler.

Unity free can be used for commercial purposes, just not by companies with annual revenues > $100k, so that's no problem if people want to sell their courses. Having them distributed by PG via Steam could feasibly be an issue, but HB Studios so far is getting away with distributing courses with trademarked names. Murky waters.

I don't quite understand why you say a pro license is needed to mod Unity games. I have no doubt I could mod PG, TGC or any other Unity game using Unity free and quite likely without even Unity at all.

Doing some testing I was able to modify existing files within the assets so the so-called 'Blue' shirt is actually now BLUE! Not a purplish-blue.

So currently the golfer we are using is wearing Footjoy shoes, Footjoy glove, Under Armour Belt and using Taylor Made clubs! B)

To be able to make a course playable in PG requires functionality that only cones with the Pro version of Unity. Everything else about using CF and Unity can be done with the free version.

To get around this, MJ has said they are looking to incorporate the validation/save function in to the CF plug in, so folks would then be able to do everything using Unity free version.

I guess this is one of the reasons that CF has been held back from full community release until this is resolved, otherwise folks would be designing courses and being unable to play them.

I believe the current swing animation has been texture mapped using the work Joe Harford did back in Feb 2013

Whether this will all change over time, we'll have to wait and see as Joe is no longer involved and off doing his on 3D animation thing elsewhere in gaming land (I believe he did some work on the XBOX game RYSE).

I don't necessarily care about brand names in a golf game. I just want a nice selection of different styles of clothes, colors choices, golfer models, club models, etc. I'd much rather them model 5 different style putters then worry about using the same model putter but putting a brand name on it.

Not sure what you are alluding to, but if it pertains to, for example, having different drivers with different shafts available that affect distance, I'm against it. The same goes for other things such as ball brands and types. If I have misunderstood you post, I apologize. I'm just confused as to what your message is.

I think he means having different types of clubs... Style of putters .. blade, off center.. etc...

I totally agree, that at some point there needs to be the ability to get different clubs in the game.. Things like shafts, grips etc should be fitting options... But having choices in say different types of wedges is going to add to the game.

We should also have the option of ball selection... Having to use the same ball... isn't  realistic  at all.

And I also agree that having clubs with different yardages attached to them is bad bad bad.. stupid ... I see that in the game I'm done. There's a difference between have clubs rated... as they are IRL than having a driver that is going to hit 30 yards longer just because ... it is.

You can't just have one set of clubs and one ball type in the game.... no way... As for hitting long with an Oban shafted driver... ? Well if I hit it right and it goes longer than your driver.. then what's wrong with that? Different clubs hit different ways with different shafts, heads.. even grip affect shooting... I don't think that'll be in the game.. but sayin...

I know that this will come to the game, it's all a matter of licensing.. everyone knows that... I don't want to see a PP brand of club in the game either... Stupid idea, I know the set we're using is generic atm, they're R11's... hehehehe, they'll do for now in EA...

Maybe I should have been clearer in the post #13.

If this turns into one of those games, that requires payment for better clubs, ball, etc. I'm outa here!!

I things like clubs, balls, whatever are available to all, free, than I'm in.

What I am willing to pay 'extra $' for is real courses, licensed by PP whether developed in-house or by community members.

What I am not willing to pay 'extra $' for is balls, clubs, apparel, etc. regardless of who created them. Nor am I willing to pay 'extra $' for non real courses, i.e. 'fictional or fantasy' created by the community.

I've been involved with PG for the last 5 months testing and have really enjoyed it. But if PP starts a 'nickel and dime' game, I'm gone!!

Having said that, I have no indication that PP is headed that direction. I sure in the 'HELL' hope that I'm right, because I love this game and the potential it holds.

Well anyone who plays video games now is pretty well used to DLC's and sometimes paying for them, depending on what they are.

I have no issues with paying something nominal for a set of Nike Vapor's for instance... I mean they had to take the time to 'create' them so no biggie if they're like a couple of bucks.

Balls should be free, I agree... I'm not ever paying for balls.

Shafts, grips, clothing etc.. all should be free as well.. Paying for a avatar's clothes won't happen.

Having licensed content for sure, course packs if they're available... I can see that. Having a custom avatar, Tiger, or Phil... Personally I'd rather play with a Michelle Wie avatar... but that's me.... :P  Oh and in saying that.. none of the avatars should have influence on shots.

I don't mind some DLC, as long as there is a decent free selection that comes with the game. You have to have at least a good amount of clothing options so that players can change every now and then so it doesn't get boring. I'd like to see, for example, like 4 differently style of player models per sex (4 men, 4 women). Maybe you know, 1 large man, a medium sized man and a few shorter, something along those lines. Obviously you should be able to select different hats, shirts, shoes, gloves, pants. There needs to be a decent selection that comes stock with the game. Same for clubs. I'd like to see a few different color variations for grips, clubheads, etc. As well a few different style of putter models.

And I too would pay for DLC content regarding course packs that were 'OFFICIAL' releases by PG. Say something like $10 for 3 or 4 totally awesome new courses. But they would have to be real courses that have somewhat of a decent popularity. I'm not going to pay for the beat up country club down the road. I'm not expecting Pebble Beach but I'd like to see some off the list of Golf Digest Best In State.

+100

Although... I would throw something in the pot for the effort.. Beat up CC down the road .. Maybe the club just needs cash to pay for a new grounds keeper, some new paint and landscaping? Might be fun to throw on the 3Click swing, throw on the workboots, jam the stinky old Lynx TP clubs in the bag and go off on fun 18 hole round of rocks, dirt n scrub brush.

I'd pay $10-$20 for a single totally awesome course, regardless of it being PG/Community or real/fictitious.

If real, it wouldn't have to be a top course - Wagga CC wouldn't be a top 1000 course yet IMO one of top two or three on Links. Given that it took 1200 hours to build and I played it for at least 30 hours, even $20 is a steal.
