Cool tsmith.  Very good score.

I've got to say after quite a few rounds at Willow Heath that it is a very well designed course K11 - considering it is not from a real venue. It's got a real personality. A lot of diversity within a 'theme'. Never boring and always challenging. Deceptively tough - and this is from the Medium tees - while on some holes you would expect to birdie and believe you could eagle them each time you play. The greens are excellent with just enough undulation to necessitate some real thought for long putts. Anything under par for 18 holes is a good score and if you had to play four rounds in a row it would be hard to better 288. You've really got to challenge a course to get to know them and now I would say it's a course I would look forward to playing any time. Congrats. Looking forward to your next one.

Played an A group and shot a +6 78.  I'm still coming to grips with the putting tweaks.  Missed too many shorties by being slightly offline.

So, were there putting tweaks Joe? All I could see in the update announcement was this...

  • Improvements to cup physics and reduced the lip out forces a little

....and yet I swear there is a difference in the putting in that there is a more pronounced penalty for an off-tempo stroke. Not that I mind at all and I think it is a great improvement. The tempo on putts is more in keeping with the rest of the shots.

I have found thru many holes played in the last couple of days that your stroke now has to be pure. Before if we didn't finish the stoke straight the ball went straight now it does not. I have used the course to correct this problem and have ironed it out but when we get a practice putting green it better be big because a lot of us will be on it quite a bit. Lol. Ted when will the Florida Glades event start and why not a four rounder.

G...........I'm at this very point in time considering how to run the first TPC 72 Hole Open Championship of the year at Florida Glades. I welcome suggestions - in particular ways to encourage participation. Initally I had that idea of playing each of your four rounds in the one outing with four different 'you' on the course but it's probably not all that practical although it would be a pure indication of your golf. I don't think it's possible to ask players to play four individual rounds consecutively and I don't think it would work. I'm leaning towards letting guys post a score for each of the four rounds whenever they like and once it has been posted...there it stands. I'd like to run it for one week from next Sunday to the following Sunday which means you might not post any scores till late in the week but you would have to fit in the remaining rounds in a short time. Otherwise you would start posting early (once you've had an acceptable score) and give yourself time to improve (and practice for that matter). I would update the scoreboard regularly to give the feeling of an active tournament.

I'd also like to have pins Easy on the first day, Medium on the next two then finish with Difficult for the last round. I'd like to throw in a Windy day somewhere and maybe start with some rain on the first round with soft conditions and slow greens then slowly dry out the course over the duration of the tournament. What fun!!

Anyway we've got a few days to debate this.

Ted I like the idea. Personally I have been playing with my foursome of Greenboro's as I have been playing a lot this week and it has helped quite a bit as I have been playing much better. With that said to do different conditions you need to play four individual rounds so that is probably best. The only thing I don't like is Windy as it is just wrong as you get winds over 50 mph and the tour won't play above 35 due to ocsilation of the ball and have delayed events for that reason. In links windy is aim right or left and hope and I won't play windy there. Just my two cents as I have heard complain about the windy here also. I had 68 tonight at Florida tonight and the other members were between 71 and 76 so almost ready to go back to Min aids. Either way you play it count me in.

Well that concludes the Forum Tour and I'd like to thank all the participants. There were some fine performances and in the end the Tour attracted 43 players from around the world. Not bad at all. And a special thanks to the guys who played in each event.

At Southampton Reynhardt_p2 and TRCThrobbinhood finished equal at 7 under and shared the win. TRCThrobbinhood continued his great form by winning the next two events at Crystal Pines and Massachusetts with a scintillating 9 under and an 8 under respectively. JoeF made his breakthrough win in truly difficult conditions at Shadowlands - proving his skills on flint hard courses with a 4 under. Mike Jones made a mockery of criticisms of pin placements and high winds at Illinois with a fine 65 and winning by 2. Finally - in the Open format - tsmith won impressively with a 5 under.

I started this tour because I was interested in seeing just how low the scores could go. Then it was to see the differences in scoring from various tee boxes and course conditions. Lastly, to give myself a purpose to play. Perfect Golf lived up to all expectations by maintaining 'realistic' scoring after the horror scores in previous games. It was great to see how the different conditions and course length affected the task of posting a good score and should help with setting up tours in the future. And personally I really enjoyed the challenge of beating my own scores and learning the intricacies of each course by playing a lot of rounds.

There were a few lessons to be learned as well.

There's a fine line between challenging golfers and turning them off. For one thing it wasn't smart to restrict the tourneys to Pro and A graders. I now realise it's important for each golfer to be comfortable playing at their own level. And maybe it wasn't a good idea to have harsh conditions so early in the life of Perfect Golf before players became experienced. I'm aware now how popular online play against others seems to be and that will be the future of tournament golf I would imagine.

Thank you

You know, I swear I remember seeing something from Andrew where he mentioned some minor tweaks to putting.  Perhaps it was on the Steam discussion board.  When the current build was out sure enough I saw what you saw.  I'm not sure if is swing tempo or swing path or both.  I know I have seen when my path was off I'd end up pushing or pulling the putt even though my tempo felt good.  At other times I felt the path was good but felt the tempo might have been off and had the same results.  I have a tendancy to "wobble" my forward stroke so the path can be off slightly to either side of the point where I began my swing.  Previously I hadn't seen as many putts go as far left or right of the hole as they do now.  I need to practice some more to get a handle on exactly what is impacting the line the putt takes.  But there has definitely been a change of some sort.

-4 with min aids! 3C. Was -5 after 15. Got a birdie opportunity at 16 but lipped out. Bogeyed the 17. Scrambled for par at the 18. Great putting until the last 2/3 holes.
