Your cam is more like hallucinating while you are out at night trying to find your way back to the party and you notice the stars and you stop in some sort of paralysis and your mind takes you on a trip to the Horsehead Nebula but then you realise it was just a horse - or your girlfriend (or boyfriend). I don't know.

Damn, is this the same Teddy Ball that went out of his way to host some terrific tournaments? Ever since you became a skinhead :D you whole attitude has changed. What's with that??

Had a first dabble with it this morning..... in a single sentence 'it's gone a bit more mainstream' for me anyway.

I am absolutely lovin' the new putting system - told u it wouldn't be so bad didn't I, I think it represents a lovely challenge and brings back touch to the game.

I love the rear view putting camera but appeal to the devs that it doesn't 'necessarily' have to pan back to the front view after u have set of a shot with the flagstick - I'd like to see the whole shot from that view because I find it much easier to get a handle and dial everything in judgement wise.

Little concerned with the new F3 - I feel it's now quite burdensome and lengthy, and again would like to see it go to the landing position instantly like F2, and also not pan back to the player when you have moved the flagstick around, not easy to make analysis when it just pans back so quickly after releasing the mouse button.

Not sure about these shot pre-sets either I think the team were going in the right direction before by having a prior knowledge of how these shots are actually executed and doing it yourself with the trajectory, I thought that was really pioneering and something I know  am going to miss severely, that was among some of the most enjoyable aspects of the game for me, and again I would appeal to the devs in the long-run to bring it back as a 'style of play' option - u would have 'arcade' or '1st principles' to choose from, but I can understand why they have done it - it's a lot more novice-friendly and faster for group games - I guess......

I think the new physics for chip plays a lot closer to that found in 'other games' with a power between a half and 2/3rds now as opposed to power and a half previously - again no big deal, just something you dial in over time.

Looks great but if I could save my graphics card from those moving branch trees I would because I too am suffering a lot more stutter and having to turn things down.

7/10 going in some great directions, others still need to be worked on, some sadly lost - thanks for all the effort.....

Wow. Spend a big chunk of my sunday fidgeting with the new build. Lot's of good stuff, especially in the putting dept. Before getting around to some serious play I had to get down to business in the settings dept. I was playing on medium settings at about 40% with cam view on 2000 (full screen). I had a 95% smooth swing. Now, that's gone. Had to recalibrate the whole thing. I'm afraid this is not going to work as I hoped. I'm down to around 10% settings medium: tree 1.50, shadow's 100, grass 50, cam view 1900 and the new lower quality on swing option turned on. Resolution is 1280x 800 with A.A. and adaptive lighting on. But all in all, this is the pits for me. Although I got the swing smooth again, the visual experience is really a lot worse. This is not going to be the game to play for me at the moment I'm afraid. I know the reason must be the spec's om my PC, i.e. the videocard, but my machine is just a year old and works well for all the other stuff, so I'll have to back down a bit. Sad day for me. :( I'll keep fidgeting and working the settings. Maybe it'll get better and maybe the dev's will improve stuff for the less-then-stellar machines out there...

I must admit when I first played the update I too was slightly disappointed but 've had a fiddle with the graphics and weather settings and I must say what I have ended up with looks absolutely stunning to my eye. I appreciate that others might find the settings a bit gaudy for their taste, but give this a try.
WEATHER
Real time weather off
Broken Cloud.
Clear Sky.

GRAPHICS
Sky scattering Effect on.
Adaptive lighting on.

I am also getting used to the chipping a bit more now. Basically I play with maximum loft and hit half to half the distance that the game says.
The putting method I love but I still think that the ball breaks a bit too early.
Overall though, great update.

I'm with you on this one KNighters.  When I first played the update I was desperately trying to like it and to give the devs and testers the benefit of the doubt but I was fearing the worst.  However, after my second and third rounds, things got so much better.  I too managed to adjust the settings so that firstly the follow cam stopped showing the ball seemingly dropping out of mid air and secondly so that my FPS climbed back up to where is was pre-update.  I can now begin to see the benefits and I do think it has pushed things forward.

I just read on another thread that an update is with the testers to help soften the chipping rollout which was one of the few things remaining on my small list of gripes so onwards and upwards as far as I'm concerned for now.

Thanks Knighters. I will keep plugging away at the settings. It's all a bit of touch and go, and slippin' 'n slidin' right now really. I'm shure the dev's will also tweak some more 'here and there' so to try to get (and keep) as many people on board as possible. The game is such a big step forward, it can only succeed imho. The trick is getting the 'low-end' users happy too. -_-

I agree with Knighters also. Ball breaks very early.

-Graphics are fantastic, definitely worth the upgrade to U5. It does come with quite a performance hit and I feel bad for the people playing on lower spec machines. The question now is...is there really any reason to keep using DX 9?

-As deena_golf mentioned, I'm not to sure how I feel about the different shot options. The last thing I want is TGC or TW gameplay mechanics where people just select the best shot type according to distance and play shots that you wouldn't or couldn't hit in real golf. I'm not making any final judgments though until the swing is tied into the animation.

The nice thing is you don't have to use the new shot options. you can still use the shot shaper to get similar shots.

Yea - I'm kinda on the fence about the new "canned" shot options as well.  For some reason I liked the fact that I had to set it up just how I wanted every time.

A potential compromise might be to allow players to save pre-set shot set-ups and name them whatever they want instead of having preset shot types already there for you (except for maybe the splash shot since we really don't have the tools to set that one up).

DX11 features are not yet supported by Linux and Mac. Catering separately for each just wouldn't be worth the effort given the low numbers on Mac and especially Linux. This is likely why HB Studios didn't bother with Mac or Linux.

I guess we got the canned shots at present as there is currently no way to alter ball position in stance and when you chip, pitch and flop, you don't always take your full shot stance, so trying to use the full swingmeter to pull off these shots would be ht and miss and they wouldn't look right. Also we don't have any way to save pre-shot setups. Maybe in the future.

Whether the canned shot styles remain as the animation starts to get developed further and more synchronized to the swing types only the Dev's know where they want to go with the swing.

It is after all only a game.

Looks really awesome, but runs pretty average I must say. Turning settings down doesn't seem to have much effect.

GTX970 (SLI but not supported) i7 4790k @ 4.6ghz and 16gb of RAM, still struggling!

Same problem for me.  My specs are higher and I'm still getting low frame rates at times like I did with the previous build.  Hopefully they can optimize this before the "retail" release so that it can run smoothly on the ultra high settings.  I have the settings close to maxed out on GTAV and it runs as smooth as butter.

I have a i4790 with 16G Ram and a GTX970 Video Card. While I do see wide fluctuations in FPS at no time has it created playing issues. I do think that some optimization is warranted. I believe that it will occur now that the major engine change from U4 to U5 has been completed. Remember it was not on the game, but also the courses, that needed to be upgraded and enhanced. The 'fine tuning' will come.

I'm getting some wild fluctuations with fps also. I've seen as much as 40+ fps difference from 1 hole to the next. It is has caused some mild issues. When you're playing 1 hole at 70 fps and the next at 25 fps there is a noticeable difference in the swing meter. Anything below 35 to 30 fps you're going to notice a difference.

I have been fortunate to help K11 with the u5 update to Black Swan and let me tell you it's absolutely stunning in a bleak, western Ireland, type way! It's just missing a few sheep to munch their way through some of the weeds!

Long time in coming but the update is pretty decent.  I've had to take the graphics down to medium to get the frames I used to playing but that doesn't bother me.

I like the putting meter and the chip physics.  I haven't checked the wind and how much of an affect it has.  Sidehill lies appear to be better.

Thanks for the effort.  The game is feeling more and more like Links 2003, at least in the physics department, which is a good thing.

Alan
