Colour balancing was always important to me when designing courses for Links. Many designers spoilt their courses with badly coloured textures or plants. I always resisted posting WIP pictures though because there would always be people who preferred the old pics to the new ones and I always trusted my own eyes more than theirs!

In your case, I think you've got a very good sense of colour and I actually like the old and the new textures in this case. The new are definitely closer to a 'real' look to me, but the old had more colour contrast and variation (something the course might benefit from with the limited scenery). The tee fringe in the old version was definitely unrealistic though.

Superb understated and meticulous work so far Gary. Whilst the original textures you were using were giving a great look to the first postings, the updated textures certainly have a depth to them and are brilliantly put together to add greater feeling of density in the shorter cut areas, as well as the dry 'sea' of grass effect which you'll have from the taller grass areas.

Thanks for all the comments guys...

I have to say that I've been designing for nearly 15 years  (PGA2000 and the TW series) and Unity/CF is easily the best set of tools that I've used in terms of allowing me to actually produce what's in my mind's eye, so a massive thumbs up to Mike and the other guys at PP.

Last few for now as it's the weekend, and I'm now not likely to get anywhere near the PC with a 13 and 10 year old!!

Here's a couple of videos to show the how the course is coming along, but mainly the new ocean water that Mike and the guys have made available...  :D

Please note that the course is not finished and I realise that there are still many issues. ;)

Nice work mate, grass looks good tooand and  love the water,  hopefully we can add sounds of  waves breaking later on

those bunkers look a bit small ,  maybe put the ruler on them see what size they are

just been trying the water out myself and was going to add some sandy beaches

maybe can you try and add some to your course and see what they look like

Cheers

Gary

As a links course devotee, having played around 100 or so in real life,  I am so happy that you are showing this to be so amazing- I still remember fondly West Foreland Links from the TW series

Cant wait to get my grubby little paws on this hopefully!

Now just remember to ask K11 how to do pot bunkers and all will be well in the world

I'm nearing the time that I can put the course out for testing.  I have a couple of holes to add and some to amend slightly...

Here is a pic of the par three, 17th with the 18th tee to the right.

You can't do pot bunkers. Yet. Some day, perhaps... I'm just mentioning this for the sake of newcomers who are unaware of certain inside jokes flying about here. mcthommo and Daz, quit hurting kittens by proxy or I will have to notify the SPCA.

Looking great, Gary.
