Unless someone can prove that Microsoft is abusing their access to our information then threads and comments contained in these threads are, at best, paranoia, and at worst, fear mongering.

If you guys want to go back to DOS 1.0 and Courier Pigeons then have at it.  The world is advancing but you don't have to.

If you're genuinely worried about Microsoft listening in on your household through your computer and monitoring your keystrokes then you might as well throw away your Apple and Google based phones.  You might as well also stop using Google for your searches.  While you're at it you should probably stop using Gmail as well.  The things that you guys are lashing out at Microsoft about have been going on for a while now.  And frankly... none of them concern me.

Most search engines are also collecting information from every user's search words. Google take this one step further by reading every email you send too. Google’s ads use information gleaned from a user’s email combined with data from their Google profile as a whole, including search results, map requests and YouTube views, to display what it considers are relevant ads in the hope that the user is more likely to click on them and generate more advertising revenue for Google.

Very true in all respects. Naivety still previals unforunately. People do click whatever they feel compelled to click. Not everyone, just 99% of consumer PC users. ;)

Not that difficult to pay attention during set-up and installation when you are asked up front to enable/disable these "features".

For you, me and about .05% of all Windows PC users.  The rest do not have a clue. Not because they are stupid but because they approach a computer like they do a TV or a radio.  Turn it on and forget about it...
