Matthew have you looked for any tutorials on the net? I would just stick to ones for terrain control as that is what you will mainly be using unity for. It's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

Struggling mightily is akin to paying the entry fee for the exalted realm of computer golf course design. Try this:
1. Keep at it and wait for Stockholm Syndrome to kick in. Things will get easier at this point.
2. Articulate the particular nature of your struggles and post pertinent requests for assistance here.
