No handicap system is perfect or to everyone's taste. But what it does do is allow mixed skill levels to compete together on one tour. So you could have an Amateur player competing against his pal week in week out, who plays at Pro. Depending on their respective abilities at each skill level would determine their handicap. Yes, the Amateur level would be accepted as being the easier of the two, but in this case, the Amateur player may be off -3 and the Pro player off +2, so the Pro player gives his pal a 5 shot start each event.

Having different skill levels is fine, but you only generally compete against the same skill when playing scratch tours, so the above scenario never happens.

If you can ever implement one that everyone agrees is the answer and one that cannot be sandbagged or manipulated, I'm all for it. A handicap system did not work out too well for that other Golf game......

We tried various handicapped systems.   It sucked for good players and it sucked for us tour admins.  Seemed like somebody was always complaining about their handicap.... :)

I think the "One Tour" system that we have is a great system.  We will be adjusting points percentages for each lower levels along with some new rules for next season.

It is overly complicated and no-one knows how the heck it works.

If there is a simple but effective and fair system that anyone can understand and be able to work out how they got their handicap there shouldn't be many complaints. There'll always be some about anything. It really can work. In reality the top players don't care about a handicap system but so what. They get their kicks from scratch play.

There should always be more than one official tour available.

Aggregate, Handicapped, and Gradual Leveling Up.

Then everyone can join the tour or tours they want.

From what I am told the One Tour fits all works better than anything before it.

H'cap system worked very well on Daz's Links Tour amd also very well on the OWGT for Links. Also on Andy Hopes APCD Tour. The OWGT Tour was coded by Andrew I believe and was a very good system. Inevitably some people didn't like it or abused it but that's the case with everything where humans are involved - just look at the OGT and forum posts here. The "handicap"  system tried here was woefully inadequate.

I think the "one tour" is great. Everybody can play at a difficulty level that suits his game.

Of course there is a little of a sandbagging problem - some players play below their ability. But we have sandbagging with handicap systems as well. For the next OGT season it might be a good idea to promote players after 2 wins.

I would lose interest in the tour if the handicaps come back. Every tournament it would be a toss up who wins - not the best player. But that's just my opinion.

I can never, ever understand why you wouldn't play to the best of you ability at all times. Perhaps it's how I was brought up.

For goodness sake it's only a GAME!

I agree.  But let's face it... there are people that ONLY care about seeing their name in the number one spot.  So much, in fact, that they will do whatever it takes to cheat their way there.  If they'd only put that much effort into becoming a better player they might have something to genuinely be proud about.

Oh well... we can't live everyone's life for them right?

Daz's tour was the fairest out there, with plenty of variety of courses. I even won the odd handicap event  ;)  :P

I run the KISS Tours and our Different Tours have both a Scratch and Handicap Leaderboard using the one uploaded Round score.

Been that way for years and have never had any complaints.

Frank, why lose interest if there were two leaderboards produced from one set of round scores. If they were completely seperate I can imagine you wouldn't want to enter a handicap event but using one set of round scores gives you your preferred scratch leaderboard.

You wouldn't even have to look at the handicap leaderboard.

;-

It can be done as per this

I did exactly the same with The GBO for 13 years. What was great was that the hotshot players actually supported handicap play and were more than willing to share their recorded rounds with players of any ability.

I could do that also.  We require the rec round be one of the five files needed to be uploaded for a score to be added to our LB's.  They are not readily available but could be sent to any player requesting them.
