Hmm..
Could we not have used Player A (who we'll call Ted) and Player B (who we'll call Ted's Friend Bill)?

Yes Arsam, I remember your request and I believe Mike was interested in the idea of recorded rounds as well so it should happen one day. In the meantime I'm going to pursue my idea if I can find a willing participant.

Well Buck....
Would you be willing to record nine holes at any course and make it available to me? Any level, any swing.
Cheers

Sure. Can you give me an idea or 2 on what software to use for that?
I'm assuming there's some screen capturing software specifically geared towards gaming?

If you've got a high end Nvidia card their Shadowplay is great.
Otherwise I'm not sure of the best way.

I tried it.
I played and recorded a round as Jack Nicklaus on a bad day and edited out all but each shot from the "Side-On" view ( to make it look like I was watching from an opponents view).
I then started a Ted Ball round in JNPG. I Alt-tabbed to the recorded Jack and I let Jack lead us out (natch) and paused before his 2nd shot. I then alt-tab to take my shot. It worked surprisingly well apart from some superfluous on-screen stuff. Basically it was a one key switch. If the recorded round paused when you alt-tab out it would be an interesting and semi-effective method of competition.

Ok - Sounds like you got what you needed already?
Will try out that ShadowPlay anyhow as I've always been curious to test it out..

MSI Afterburner is a great choice for video capture. I have used it for years.

Buck, you may as well use Shadowplay if you have it. I leave it on in Nvidia and activate it with Alt-F9 when I need it.

In LINKS2003 you have the ability to record a round as well as being able to play a round against that recorded round. This was done extensively on the LINKS tours by effectively the same principle as you described except that you are playing directly with other fellows recorded round. There should be no reason this capability could not be ultimately available in JNPG. I have previously posted this suggestion in the Request forum.
The biggest problem with this is the amount of data that will be needed. In Links it was simply the data of the swing result, coupled with the wind speed/direction at the time of impact. The shot could then be simply recalculated on another computer from this data. In JNPG the weather is in real time, so the wind speed/direction data is constantly changing and would need to be captured in real time too, and saved, to accurately reproduce the shot later. Much harder to implement, and much larger files involved too! This is also why there are so many issues playing JNPG in multiplayer compared to Links.

Well it worked, for what it's worth.
For the trial it went like this...
I recorded the first 3 holes at Medinah as Jack Nicklaus. BARE of course. (I reduced it in size from 480mb to 118mb with Handbrake)
I then start up that video in a suitable program. I found a free player called DivX.
I then start JNPG and I wait on the first tee.
I let Jack play first by Alt-Tab. This goes straight to DivX and I hit play to start Jack. He takes his drive.
I then Alt-Tab when his ball stops and I'm then on the 1st tee. I play my shot.
At this point I Alt-Tab between the two to determine who is away.
The good thing about DivX is that when you Alt-Tab out it automatically pauses the Jack video. So to play the round, or in this case 3 holes, it's simply a matter of Alt-Tabbing between players. I rest my left hand on Alt-Tab and easily switch whenever needed.
It actually works without much fuss. I'll make the Jack vid available for anyone who likes to try something different. Even in this simple form I can see competition possibilities.

Recorded Rounds and Save Games are on our list...
Brilliant news, Andrew. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyways.......
Now that I've sorted out the best way to play a virtual dude it is quite cool.
Check out this vid. The first two holes at Medinah. Me playing a steady Jack Nicklaus (me too). I switch between players by Alt-Tab. It's realistic competition. Think of the possibilities.
