"(Nova Scotia, CAN) October 5th, 2016 — Canadian video game developer, HB Studios, announced today that The Golf Club VR video game is being released in virtual reality on the HTC Vive system by the end of 2016. This further demonstrates the company’s commitment to their best known intellectual property and entertainment title, and will allow gamers to experience The Golf Club from a whole new, truly immersive perspective.

The Golf Club VR is based on the original award-winning game, and will allow users to play all 130,000+ courses currently available to players of the console and PC versions. The game will include a number of new features designed specifically for the virtual reality experience, including a smartwatch to analyse each shot, room scale VR capabilities for a customised game space, and a single controller used for interacting with the environment and swinging clubs. Highly refined controls and multiple difficulty levels create an accessible experience for all players.

“Playing The Golf Club on the HTC Vive takes the experience to a whole new level,” said Craig Chapman, Designer of The Golf Club VR. “Not only is it a much more tactile and immersive experience, now the player is also able to freely explore all the fantastic courses and environments which users have created since the original launch of the game.”

”This is another exciting addition to the franchise,” said Alan Bunker, CEO of HB Studios. “The Golf Club is a key title for us, and this is a natural direction for us to take. We’re committed to the franchise for the long term and embrace new technologies which further enhance the awesome experience of the game.”

The Golf Club is an award winning golf simulation video game originally released on Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and PC Windows platforms during Summer 2014 and gained fast recognition for its authenticity and in-depth course designer feature which allows users to design and create courses for sharing and playing with others online. The Golf ClubVR is based on the original game (course designer not included). Release date and price to be announced."

Hell yes, I would love to throw my clubs after a bad shot. Or jump into the cart and drive the whole thing into the nearby pond.

I'd be afraid of puking. 2D gaming will have to suffice for me.

Swinging with Vive motion controllers I take it?

Could be interesting. I loved Tiger on PS3 w/ the Move

Along that line...would be cool to see them release TGC2 (or this VR version of TGC1...I guess) for the PSVR

Just out of curiosity...how many in here have tried out the Oculus or Vive?

I have an Oculus cv1 and it is great and would be excellent for JNPG (I live in hope).

In simulation use VR is useless, so it doesn't mean much to me. 3D support would be nice though. With basic 3D glasses on, you can also see your real ball and club and have the feeling that you shoot golf balls out of a big window:). That would be cool.

I don't know if it's already possible with Nvidia cards?

I have the Oculus Rift cv1. It's brilliant for racing (asseto corsa) and flying (aerofly) and space (elite dangerous). I have a feeling golf might not be ideal for VR yet. VR works best when there is something important in the close foreground. So for example, cockpits. More distant objects are less clear due to resolution limitations.

In golf there is nothing close by to focus on and the distance limitations will be more evident. That's not to say it couldn't work just would not be as visually impressive as other games.

The same is true of video. 360 or 180 3D stereoscopic video is excellent for extreme close ups (think adult entertainment) but anything on the far side of even just a room is nowhere near so impressive.

As for TGC VR, no thank you. A horrible game in 2d. That they are trying to sell it as a separate product rather than simply adding VR support says it all for me.

PC Specialist built i7-6700 CPU@3.40GHz, Nvidia GTX 1070, 16GB Ram, Oculus Rift, Corsair M65 Gaming Mouse.

Well, I'm personally excited about it.
Nice to see someone pushing things on this particular front.

I too am excited by this development. While I agree with most of robbiet71's points, I think that he is severely underestimating how good a golf game could be in VR. As he is a Rift owner I can understand his emphasis towards cockpit games, but as a Vive owner, used to roomscale VR with hand tracked controllers I can tell you that VR will be well suited for golf games, despite the resolution issues that the current gen machines bring to games. Only yesterday, I was in a VR meditation app, standing by a mountain lake, pine trees and grass swaying in the breeze, watching the birds fly overhead and I was thinking how fantastic it would be if I could play golf in that environment. I even swung an imaginary club as I stood there thinking about it! Only a few hours later, I was reading about the forthcoming release of the TGC VR game and how it would even allow you to play all the user created content from the original. I realised that I would soon be able to stand on the many courses I've created for TGC as if I was really there! It should be amazing!! My only concern is that I won't actually be able to play the game for the same physical reasons that I had to stop playing real golf, and later TW on the Wii. Unlike robbiet71, I never found the 2D TGC to be a horrible game, and in this case I'm hoping that TGC VR still has an 'xbox controls' option so that I can play without pain! (I doubt it will though as most Vive owners are very anti-gamepads because of how great roomscale VR is!) There are also many reasons for bringing it out as a separate title, as the original game would never be able to run at a stable 90fps in VR in its current form.

Will VR make TGC any better or will it just be the same TGC that many complain about, gameplay wise, in VR?

There are certain game genres that are well suited to VR, golf being one.

I agree, great to see boundaries being pushed, but switching to VR surely doesn't suddenly make something good, if the gameplay is still the same as it was pre VR, especially if it was constantly criticised.

This is what makes it so interesting actually. The huge complaint I had w/ TGC1 was the lack of variability in shot outcomes, which is tied directly to the specific input method (controller) and what they can/can't do as it relates to the fidelity offered by the analog sticks and controller age, etc.

This VR version is going to have an entirely new input method (the Vive controllers) and thus it's highly possible that the gameplay will be far more engaging.

There are other niggles with TGC 1 that I had, but honestly the huge majority of the issues I had were directly tied to the input for the shots, the shot cone, the lawn dart dial a distance grid, etc.

TGC is a horrid game.  16D would not make it any more playable.

Still no 3C.  Can't play golf, won't play golf without a three-click meter. :D

No multiplayer lobby which is the most important thing to have in TGC either.  That is just laughable.

Worrying about who uses what method ...

I'm not worrying about what others are using at all.

It makes no sense to be using a 3C input method in VR where the whole idea is to as much as possible immerse yourself in the virtual world.

If 3C is needed/desired - That player should simply steer clear of VR as a platform.

"Virtual World"

This means a fake or made up world.  In a fake or made up world, anything goes.  It is not just your opinion of what should be in this fake world.  Understand your fallacy now?
