This is the original BARE post which discusses each component of the HUD. Some interesting discussion in that thread.

If I ruled the world every day would be the first day of spring of course but I would also have the JNPG default setting without any information other than clubs, wind direction (with a general speed indicated), a scorecard and the shot shaper - all of which can be pulled up as bortimus proposed. There would be no flybys or F2 or F3 options. No aiming stick or elevation info. Use your eyes. All other assists can be added but they will remain artificial gaming assists.

BARE golf isn't a punishment. I'm only suggesting disappearing the HUD because that's the only way we can approach realism at this point in time.

The point is - if I can score a 78 at Medinah (after striking the ball badly and missing a couple of makeable putts) then it is a legitimate method of playing this game. I'm sure I can shoot par or better in the future. It is remarkable that a player can achieve those scores playing BARE. Thanks PP.

Ted, a question about how you do with the putting; are you using an approach or follow camera so you can see how the ball rolls on the green after landing and judge the following putt? Or are you just using the player camera with little if any giveaway of the green ondulation from the player perspective?

Very good question G JM.

Initially I was a BARE purist and demanded my followers play from the Player camera for the reason which you pointed out. They ignored me and stayed away in droves. And yet if I ruled the world every man would say the world was his friend obviously but I would insist on playing from the Player view - no Snap camera etc. - for the reason of reading the green and your putt (among other things) from some magic eye.

Thanks for alerting me GJM.

I'll remove my Medinah rounds and record some full BARE.

I have started to use the Saved Rounds site too. I have played a few of you this week and uploaded two MED rounds (not bare though).

you have to hit many partial shots which is near impossible with a controller

Really?  I have zero issues hitting partial shots with the controller.  What do you do when you are in between clubs normally?

can you hit a full shot 60% ? i just cannot seem to do that, i can get it down to about 80% which is enough to get me around wthout too much trouble, but 3C is more flexible when it comes to hitting certain percentages, controller is not.  If the 80% i can hit is not quite enough i just settle for a longer putt.  Its no good thinking that half a swing will give you 50% because it just dumps the ball 20 yds in front of you, 82% is i think the lowest percentage i have achieved with a fluid up down swing.

edit: I have prob not explained my meaning here very well.... when i say i cannot attain 60%, i mean with a fullish swing with a slower follow thru that gives height and carry,  yes i can make a slower partial swing and get 60% but its just not a viable shot as the carry is very short, its more like a little punch shot, and considering how quick the ball dies when it hits turf, the shot is hardly worth it.  Judging the % on a pitch is really tricky and near impossible as i play these in one fluid motion, maybe gradually bring the club back to a point will work better, i'd have to try it, i think it would feel unnatural.

OK - yes, I'm with you.  It seems that I can do very short partial shots (like 30%... I use this when plugged in a trap - hit a full shot instead of a splash and then stop around 30/40%) or something around 75-80% but anything in the 50% range is very difficult to do.

Lol just carded + 10 think i 6 putted one hole...  this is actually weird, for some reason playing like this is throwing my putts offline from time to time, i'm usually pretty solid when it comes to keeping a straight bat for putting, but i think the lack of distance knowledge is making me not quite commit to a full putt follow thru and throwing them offline here and there....mind games!!!!

Yeah I'm very tentative with long putts and I generally have a short, ugly result. I'm trying to visually gauge 30 feet as my standard because a backswing to the right shoe is about 30' on a flat green. I'm getting better at judging power but it will take a lot more rounds to get comfortable.

I'm not having dire struggles with reading greens (Medinah has superb greens for reading all the same) and I'm getting more confident by the round. That translates to bolder putts around the 6' to 10' range.

Had a thought driving in from Cleveland this morning (stolen from Arsenio Hall):

Back in the late 80s when I used to play a lot of golf, several courses in SoCalif had round concrete slabs in the middle of the fairway:  red=100yds, white=150yds and blue=200yds to the center of the green.  Some also had red, white and blue stakes on the edges of the fairway.  Perhaps the PP designers could incorporate something like this into their courses.

I have a feeling Crow357 has added distance markers Warren. I think Bortimus has added fairway distance markers (disc). There may well be others who have included them. They might point out their courses that have them.

I also suggested a board at each tee with par, distance etc. and a simple map showing doglegs, water and maybe bunkers. It might take a bit of work but there might be someone who likes doing that stuff.

I've got 'em but my course isn't set for release until 2020...I need a bit of DoGgz get 'er done spirit! I start so well when I sit down but it's not long before I'm stacking rocks along the shoreline or building sand castles.

Looks like Kiawah is worth waiting for, from the screenshots here and elsewhere. But three years, not sure I can wait that long...

For sure! Interestingly, they built the real course in less time than I've spent! But, I'd argue Pete Dye didn't build everything by hand himself.

In my ideal world, I'm an eager assistant. I can pretty up a course but everything start to finish doesn't work well when you measure things in millimeters.

Gotta get used to zooming out and working and just going with it.

I'm not far from a beta. I think that'll force me to the finish line.
