Mika,

Spectacular design, and an inspiration to us all.

I love how your texturing somehow fills the barrenness,

along with the claustrophobic feel of the fog. I played

with a low stimp and bumpy greens for an early golfing

niblit type of feel, and had a most enjoyable round. I don't

actually play the game that much, but I had a blast.

I do wish you would use a low opacity brush and smooth

a few tears that are in play. Other than that, it's still a max star course.

Thanks for the experience.

Thanks again for all the feedback. I'll get that bunker fixed for next version.

Few things about Blackface Mountain

Scoring will be low. Like in real life. If a tour pro were to play a course measuring 5700m he would probably shoot 60 without too much trouble. Best experience to play this course would be with a player corresponding your "real life self" (unless you are a tour pro) or perhaps with a hickory set. I had a look at adding longer tees but it wouldn't work on this. I hope we have a feature to create our own golfers in the PG2.

Recommended to play with slow greens. I could imagine this being stimp 5-6 if in real world. I changed some of the "sloped pins" so the easy pins can be played at faster green speeds.

Let me know if you find obvious places needing smoothing and I'll see what to do with them. To preserve the character of this course I usually place a stone or patch of rough and only smooth terrain as a last option.

Mika,

A joy as expected! You are a true master! You were the kid in grammar school drawing the Sistine Chapel with 3 crayons and the rest of us were scribbling down smiley faces and stick people.

Love the challenge you took on with the simplicity of fewer textures and unaltered terrain data. This course file is under 100MB!

Looking forward to the South Course release as well.

Thanks but really I was the kid eating crayons :) Fortunately for me computers came along and now I'm able to create something :)

Mika,

Fabulous work on Blackface Mountain. It has a superb feel to the course and the colour palette and selection of its use around the course is sublime.

I'm wondering though if your rough and deep rough textures got swapped about during an edit. I am finding green fringes are showing as Deep Rough, whilst areas with longer grasses are showing as Rough.

I'll go back in and make some notes and screenshot overhead locations to illustrate, and come back and edit this.

Thanks for the chance to have a look over in open beta.

Hole #7 - Par 3: Ball location is just below the bottom of the continue button here, in what I would say would be a rough fringe.

Just played a full round on this Majestic design. Blackface is VERY impressive! Played with 11 stimp, bit of rain and cloudy calm weather, normal fairways with soft bumpy greens. Made my first Ace!! in JNPG on the beautifull 15th and had a great round. :D Allround feeling is very immersive. The colours are great. This is a very special course indeed. Can't wait for the final version!!

Thanks Mike.

If possible I would have all the rough just something like random lie penalty between 0 to 100 %. I think that would best correspond to the sparse, rough natural land here. That not being possible I simply used Deep Rough around the fairways to make it more penalizing. As far as I know, please correct me if wrong, the areas outside of splines will always be Rough physics so that's the reason they may appear to be wrong way.

You can find the latest version from the link below. I'm quite happy the way it plays now so this will be final unless something major appears.

That would make sense Mika. I wasn't aware that you couldn't assign a global attribute to the starting plot to begin with which would make it the desired base layer, i.e. on your creation, Deep Rough as the base with the other layers then overlaid.

Certainly the physical property attributes appeared to be the right way around, and I didn't notice it playing in any way which would not have been expected.

It'll be a huge learning curve for me when I do get to a design (and all the more so the longer I leave it) but I'm sure that I'll eventually get to understand just why Course Forge doesn't allow what would make sense to be 'labels' for the different surfaces to be edited when you decide to use them that way around, without changing the properties.

Thanks for everyone helping me out with these courses and hope you enjoy them. Especially I would like to thank Justin for creating the magnificent clubhouse for the Mount Zanzibar Resort. It really brings the whole setting alive.

Very realistic rendition here mika, looks so natural and organic
Love your textures and blending, just great mate
You know mate you have what it takes to make fantastic courses, you have the knack
Shows you  go searching and study landscapes to get that picturesque look and feel

Highly rated this one as well as both Zanzibar courses, submitted 4 course  - amazing

Pics below

Thank you very much mika

1- Tee is not flat- Also many other holes -tees boxes have slopes  , you better check all the others
Bunker adjoins right on the edge of fairway, the rouhg around the bunker is too thin-
     Mower  man syndrome -Lol
     Bunker tears
Rough too thin around that rock on one side there as shown and needs smoothing

2- Crooked tees-check the others , bunker tears
3- bunker tears
4-Crooked tee boxes, terrain tears
5- bunker tears
6-Rock on fairway
Part of rock showing near green edge
Fix that white texture behind the rocks

7- Crooked tee boxes
Fix up texture, make it look more realistic

8-Crooked tee boxes
9-Fix up texture, make it look more realistic
10- ok
11-Fix up texture, make it look more realistic
12-Crooked tee boxes
13-tears
14-Jagged edges along water, just need to smooth very slightly
Pin has too much slope ?
     Rocks partly showing here
     Tears

15-Rocks seem a bit too close to the green, just worry about ball resting up to rocks and the
     camera view to pin

16-Crooked tee boxes
Smooth edges of terrain in front of tee box as shown
      Pin 3-Too much slope

17-Crooked tee boxes

I mentioned in another thread that your courses like Blackface looks very realistic because of the way your underlying textures mixes with your planting.

It works very well and proves that a course dosen't need to be flooded with planting to look great.

Incredibly well done and big fan

Dr Rob
