While Golf games may be a "social experience", online play numbers are awfully low even during Tiger's hey day.

I can't speak for others, but the reason I personally don't do it more is because of the lack of difficultly levels/feature & input method locking/etc to provide a consistent and fair playing field (beyond just handicaps).

It's sort of a chicken and the egg thing.

Devs can say "most don't play online" as a rationale to not focus on the online features, but at the same time they aren't providing the features needed to draw many of us into playing online and change that statistic of "how many play online".

Chicken or Egg - Who's first?  lol

The problem for most Golf game developers is this question.....if you build it, will they come?

PG built a pretty comprehensive MP Online interface and game modes. How many are playing it? 100 users at a time is good here. It is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

EA built decent MP online functionality and MP online game modes and their telemetry said 10% of total users played online. They no longer develop and publish Golf games.

If you were a Dev for a Golf game, where would you spend your time and money?

I don't know if there's much you can gleam out of comparing multiplayer across different games since the games themselves draw different people, aside from differences in MP offerings.

Saying PG built an online MP but doesn't have many playing might have all to do with the PG game itself and nothing to do with their great MP offering, for example.

I would just like TGC at this time to give real multiplayer an actual run so we can see - it sounds like they might, yeah?

That is exactly what they are doing.

well with the Dear John post we got yesterday looks like

i may have to go back to the controller and give TGC2 a chance.

have been over there looking around and i will say those graphics sure do look good.

looks like there is stuff there to do plenty of tours you can get involved in.

looks like it could be fun.

but im going to hold out till the next steam sale.

I'm playing Society tournaments in TGC 2 regularly Dave, but I've got to be honest with you, I'd wait until the Early Access version of TGC 2019 comes out about 7 or 8 weeks from now.  It's going to allegedly correct so many of the things that are wrong, or missing in TGC 2.  The multiplayer is abysmal in TGC 2, but it's going to have a lot more going for it in TGC 2019.

I didn't think I would do it but I bought TGC2 as it is only £12.99 on the PS store.
My first impressions are mixed:
The game plays well enough but the club on ball sound is dire, the bunker lips are horrible and the lighting is strange so I can't really understand people's critisism of the look of PG after playing TGC2.
I played one round online against my brother which was ok but there was a 3-5 second time delay.
The game isn't as bad as I expected it would be after owning TGC1 but PG is still a much better and more rewarding simulation of golf in my opinion.
I really hope PG2 is developed for the PC and console but as the new owners of the game have still to respond on this forum I'm afraid that don't believe it will happen. I hope they prove me wrong.
