JNPG freezes and needs to be killed from task manager

freeze crash

Best Answer Tretee , 07 September 2017 - 07:30 PM

For the first time ever that i can remember. I managed to finish all 18 holes in a local multiplayer round without issues.

Only difference now vs. all other attempts was probably that all players now had 14 clubs in their bag.

The reason I say probably is that I really don't know since that was not something I checked before today.

As far as I am concerned this problem seams solved but i guess time will tell since none of it makes any sense.

I have been using JNPG with sim pass for more than 2 years now.

Solo play or all kinds of multi play with on-line competitors has worked fine. I can remember a handful of crashes or freeze sessions.

That is not the case for local multiplayer games. During the 2 years I have tried it just a few times. Always freezes after a few holes.

A few weeks ago my son picked up golf and we have done some 20 session/rounds in the past week.

We have done 2 or 3 local players in either "Solo" or "Multi" player game modes. We never managed to play 18 holes.

The game freezes post shot while the post shot screen/box is visible. It can happen after 1 hole or a few holes. Totally unpredictable and it happens on all kinds of courses. Official and user designed. Only way to get out of it is to kill JNPG from the task manager. When the game is restarted I have the choice to "resume".

In all those 5 or so cases when we have tried that. Game starts from the point before we hit the shot that led in to the freeze situation. The game gets stuck the same way after that shot every time.

So we tried to run solo mode with only 1 player because that has worked well before. After 8 holes it froze again.

Checked with the sim play crowd in the chat and many people have experienced similar problems lately, kind of surprised nobody has reported it.

I would rate this as a serious issue and hope you look in to it sooner than later. I would be happy to help debug the problem if required.

PC: Win 10 64bit Automatic update enabled, Nvidia GTX970.

Internet connection: 1Gb fiber. That thing is lightning fast and reliable.

Setup a solo play game mode with 2 local players in order to try to figure out what is going on.

I played both balls. 18 hole round worked just fine.

That is extremely frustrating because in all those 30 or so attempts to play local multiplayer with friends it has never worked. The game will freeze after a random number of holes.

The only thing I can think of that is different is pace of play. When I play alone I have 1 - 5s between shots. When different people play multiple balls they take much longer time between shots.

The dropbox link is for the log file that was created after the last game that froze. That was a Solo game 1 player but 2 persons were in reality playing it as alternate. shot. So there was significant time between each shot.

A few internal server errors to social.perfectparallel.com but they look harmless.

The crash is the null reference with IELoadLocalRecordedRounds()  - should be very quick to fix.

The local recorded round reference is interesting. I have never recorded any rounds. Local or other.
I do have 9 files in the "recorded" folder, but I believe those are recorded shots.

Looking again there's an issue with that, but it won't cause a crash.

The crash unfortunately didn't get logged.

I am not surprised it did not get logged. When it happens the program freezes and you get the "not responding" windows message.

That normally means some high priority thread in the program is stuck and will not let anything else run including the logging.

I actually left it for at least 10 min several times hoping this was a network error or something that could be resolved by waiting. Nope.

Well here we go again. Managed to play 1 trouble free round with 2 local players this weekend.

Today the game is failing as described above. One thing that could help debug it is that once it has failed and I restart it.

If I choose "resume" it will fail again after the next shot, when post shot screen comes up.

E.g. I can reproduce the problem as many times as I want as long as I don't press "end game".

I will leave it like that until tomorrow and I would appreciate if you can contact me so we can figure out whats going on.

update: While I was writing this and did some other things. The game was left in the "frozen" state.

Believe it or not, after some 15 min. It just continued as if nothing was wrong. So whatever it waited for, it got 15 min later.

The "F8" terminal looks like this. (keep in mind this is after game restart and "resume" + 3 shots)

Tried again against all odds to play a game in the simulator with my son. First hole after second shot. Game froze again.

We waited like idiots for 10 min and then tried restart a few times. Same problem.

This pretty much makes the game useless for anything but online games. Considering that I have so far paid 500$ for the game I must say it's extremely disappointing that nobody from the dev team seams to care. It's not like this is a minor issue like ball physics etc ...

Just had someone pointing me to this thread.  This is very strange.  When the post shot comes up does it have a continue button and if so what happens if you click on it?

There is nothing in these logs or the F8 which indicates any form of problem at all so nothing for us to go on there.  When the post shot comes up it is merely waiting for user input one way or the other there are almost no processes running while waiting for user input

When the post shot screen comes up, the delay time bar starts to animate. The animation stops at some 35%(set at 6s). The mouse icon turns in to the animated wait icon. (The one that looks like a rotating circle). You can't click on anything and get a response.

If I do click anywhere in the game screen, I get a (not responding) added beside the program name in the window title.

As mentioned before. I have left the game in that state for 15 minutes once and it just resumed as if nothing was wrong.

Not sure if this is relevant but I tried to play the same setup on a different PC that does not have a launch monitor connected so that was played with a mouse. I then detected that the player we use for my son only had driver and putter in the bag. Never bothered to look at that and frankly had no idea there was a bag you could setup for the player since that is not relevant in the simulator. I have not tried to play the game in the sim room after loading the bag with 14 clubs. Will try it tomorrow.
