It appears to me that they are justifying the price hike on the tour license, the game itself appears to have had minor tweaks that should have been a patch for TGC 2 and nothing more.  From the actual footage of the licensed courses we have seen, that hike looks a complete cash grab, as the licensed courses do not look anything special, pretty average work compared to the real life courses created in course forge. If you seriously pay AAA price for this garbage, then you clearly have more money than sense.

LOL!  I do tend to agree that the "official" courses are nothing special.  There are a handful (or more) of designers (including yourself) that easily run circles around what HBS can do with their courses.

For me personally (and I reiterate the word "personally" because I don't intend for this statement to apply to anyone but me) I've enjoyed playing TGC2.  I see TGC 2019 as a step forward since it addresses some (not all) of the key issues I have with TGC2's gameplay.  So for me, it's worth the money.  I'm not really seeing a huge benefit in all the PGA licensing and I'm willing to be that the career mode won't be great either.  Where it's at for me is improved core gameplay and the new online multiplayer system.

If you're someone who didn't like TGC2 then TGC 2019 isn't going to be much (if any) better for you so you'd be better off saving your money.

Apparently the "big news" is a partnership of some kind with 2kSports

I saw the video, but the guy streaming it and who posted it got asked to remove it and he did

It seemed weird in the video there was no branding anywhere but the intro/loading screen.

It was either faked or they'll probably be a big patch with a GUI overhaul to plaster 2k stuff all over.

Yes mebby, you say it will address some issues with TGC 2...that's exactly what a patch/update should do.  If they were retailing it something sensible like £25 i could just about understand, but they have now put themselves firmly in the triple "A" bracket of developers and by god they had better deliver.  It just stinks of greed imo and i don't think PC sales will be much to write home about, i can see it being 80% off by christmas.

LOL  I cannot wait for the all whining and complaining of those who actually purchase this game.  I am waiting with another I told you so same as when TGC v2.0 came out.

If 2k sports is involved in a hands on manner then it will be the best golf game by a mile in 2-3 years. They kicked EA ass with NFL 2k5 and EA went and bought the nfl rights to shut them out. They kicked Ea ass with 2k basketball and pretty much killed the NBA live series.

It's in good hands if they they (2K sports) take a hands on approach.

I have to agree.

In general, depending upon how involved they get in actual gameplay decisions over time, this might up the chance of me giving it a run honestly.

I've always thought HB needed a higher level "editor" to oversee things from a bigger picture and make better, but difficult, gameplay and interaction decisions.

For the true evangelists in the TGC world, Anthony was a god.  To many of us not under that spell though, TGC has always had these weird ass quirks that he (and subsequent people once he left) seemed to think were "amazing decisions and/or innovations".  It was just a good example of needing a presence or influence not so intimately involved to run a pass over everything from a wider gaming lens I always thought.

My one main, and pretty legitimate, fear is if 2k tries to turn the game into a micro-transaction hell hole.

It seems every game is heading that direction unfortunately. The only game I buy on a yearly basis is NBA 2k sne I'venever purchased anything other than the game itself. I dont think they make you buy anything to progress in the sports games at least. More like sneakers etc... we have the option to just pass. Who the heck needs to play Taylormade Irons in a video game anyway, give me the knock offs that come for free lol..

Yea - the more I think about it the more I think 2K's involvement would be a good thing.  I hope that's what their big announcement is.

But it kinda begs the question even more for some though - why would you buy TGC 2019 versus waiting to see what 2K does to it in the next iteration?

Depends on your perspective I suppose.

I suspect those that enjoyed TGC2 will see the changes being worth the money.

Those that didn't enjoy TGC2 will see this as a greedy money grab.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon who you ask), this is likely to be like the situation with Top Spin was.

I actually, to this day, play Top Spin 4 for PS3 (emulated on the PC) - phenomenal game.

But nothing about it would make you think of the NBA2k or previous NHL/NFL2k efforts in terms of the integration.

It's essentially Top Spin with a 2k logo at the initial loading of the game (and some other spots), which is nearly exactly what I saw on that Twitch stream that was taken down.

It's the lightest touch of partnerships possible.

It's just something to hang their name on and have in their "library" of offerings, but essentially everything else I expect to be HB, business as usual.

For HB it's an incredible name to partner with and family to be a part of, etc

Some will think that a light touch of integration is great (not me) - I personally think HB/TGC at this point could do with a more drastic change moving forward.  Maybe 2k will get to that for the next release though, who knows?

Ah - OK.  So more like a more formal publishing type of partnership it sounds.  I'd hope that 2K would get more involved and take the game to the next level.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It does, however raise my hopes that TGC might come to the Nintendo Switch!  Still a long shot but less so than it was with just HBS involved.

For sure!

I do worry about the horsepower requirements just aren't going to be there on the Switch without gutting the game completely.

Perhaps down the road for sure though

I've wondered if it would even be any FUN on the Switch too.  It may not translate very well.  The sticks wouldn't allow for a ton of control with the swing so you'd either be hitting everything dead straight or shanking the ball all over the place.  Which makes you wonder if they'd introduce a 3C method and at that point I'd tap-out!!

I'm finding the Switch to be more suited for puzzle and RPG types of games which typically are not my cup of tea but they are super engaging on that platform for me... probably because I'm usually playing it while on an airplane with nothing better to do.  Besides looking like a man child - it's awesome!

For 2K to help push this forward they would need to swap out everything for a new engine delivering more realistic textures, TGC 2019 is still trading off the look and feel of the original game.  HB don't like dipping into the back pocket, they would much rather bring the cash in via what is basically over priced DLC.

2k do like their micro transactions. And I mean to the point where they rival EA.

I'll buy it because it's a new golf game.  I doubt seriously there will be much difference between TGC 2 and 2019 other than the PGA stuff. I'd love to see a Perfect Golf 2 come out but I'm not holding my breath on that one. So in the meantime, anything new for video golf comes out, I'm all in. People bitch and moan about these new golf games but when it comes down to it.....they eventually wind up buying it...LOL

I understand a lot of that sentiment.

I can say, for myself though, if it's too similar still to TGC 2 I absolutely won't be a buyer (I bought TGC2 and got a Steam Refund ASAP).

I'm trying to keep an open mind, as I, like you, am usually interested in any new golf games that even attempt to come at things from a realistic/simulation styled angle.

Has anyone actually challenged them in TGC forum as to why they are hiking the price up to triple A levels.  This is the one time i wish i was not banned, i would like to ask if the inclusion of license is the reason, because the rest of the improvements are not even DLC standard, we have shot preview, speed up drive button, i'm struggling to think what else...Oh wait, we have 3D dynamic hair, wow clincher!
