Well, this definitely has my interest. As an old time lover of Links, (best golf game ever, imo) I am curious about the game and will try it out. From the video and few screenshots available, it has the Links vibe to it with animated water and the wind blowing through the trees and vegetation. I am not detered by the lack of a controller or mouse swing, as I love the 3 click swing environment and make no apologies for it. Will be fun to give this a go!

That is the most newsworthy item I've seen on this site in quite some time. I'm in.

Very interesting. The E6 golf simulator software was developed by the core group from Access Software, including Chris Jones, Dave Ashby, Steve Johnson and Roger Carver. It has been on the market for years now. They have decided to go the opposite route of TrackMan and port their software to the PC game market. Visually, you can see the connections back to the old Links 386 Pro software and it looks a bit dated. It will be interesting to see if it only includes a 3-click interface, which I think is probably the case.

If the product is a success, it could inspire TrackMan to allow their latest software to be released as Perfect Golf 2. But, that is probably wishful thinking at this point.

E6 wasn't well received in the home simulator market where there were other choices such as TGC or JNPG, as it gave far less at a far higher cost.

It was the ideal choice in commercial setups because of its ease of use for stag parties etc, proper licensing of courses and the only software option for some turnkey simulator setups. The latest E6 ("Connect") released a year or so ago still massively trails TGC and JNPG, so I can't see the non-simulator players here too happy with it.

Sounds like a 3c future exists for those who want it...

And a lot of the rest of us will end up on 2K or EA offerings probably

(And of course one could just ride out PG for a long time also - hopefully)

PG: Free maps from designers if they stay motivated

Links E6: The game is free with 5 courses, but anything new will be DLC

Could be worse, I guess.

Hey Buck, you aren't on 2K are you? Any idea when EA might come along with something new? Even with Tiger Woods associated with 2K, it's hard to imagine much in the way of improvements to the game. Nevertheless, I find that I have just as much fun using the controller in 2K as I did with 3 click here and Links.

What are you guys talking about as ready for download? Links or EA Sports? I don't see any links anywhere, unless I didn't look hard enough.

The course packs are $12 (on sale) with mostly no-name courses. $15 is regular price, 5 courses per pack.

Shameless copypaste:

Asiana
Located in the hills of Yongin, South Korea, Asiana Country Club was designed by Ronald Fream and is owned by Asiana Airlines. Each hole features two greens and can play very differently depending on the pin location selected that round.

Barton Creek
Fazio Foothills is located in Austin, Texas and is considered to be one of the finest courses in the American Southwest. The course is one of Tom Fazio’s crowning achievements with its mixture of dramatic views, brilliant layout, and natural limestone caves as backgrounds. The course was opened for play in 1986 and was renovated in 2004.

Cabo Del Sol
Cabo Del Sol: The Ocean Course is poised against a magnificent backdrop of the brilliantly beautiful Sea of Cortez. The sea is sharply contrasted by the golden shores and beautiful green turf. While primarily known for its beauty, its designer Jack Nicklaus believes Cabo Del Sol to have the “three finest finishing holes in all of golf.” It opened for business in 1994 and has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the Best Courses in Mexico.

The Greenbrier - The Old White
The Old White is the first 18-hole golf course at The Greenbrier. The course was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald and opened for play in 1914. A legend of golf history at The Greenbrier, the course was named for the well known Old White Hotel, which stood on the grounds from 1858 through 1922.

Wade Hampton
Located in Cashiers, North Carolina, beneath the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains, Wade Hampton is considered by most serious golfers to be an outstanding example of golf course design. The course balances new ideas and old traditions to create an always unique and extremely challenging round of golf. The course's design never belies the surrounding beauty of Cashiers. The result is seamless imbrications of man-made and natural beauty and an outstanding round of golf.

Grand Country Club
Located in the heart of South Korea, Grand Country Club lies between the Noryeong Mountains to the north and the Sobaek Mountains to the east. The course features wide fairways and five lakes spread over gently rolling terrain.

The Club at Hokulia
Hokuli’a is generous off the first tee but will test your iron game with demanding approach shots. Open year round, this ocean side club was designed to provide a sheltered climate from coastal breezes, with each hole featuring a dramatic view of the Pacific Ocean. It is the only private ocean side golf course located on the Big Island.

Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club
Nestled in Upper East Canyon of the Wasatch Mountains near Park City, Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club is the only Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Utah. With breathtaking views and challenging tee shots, Jeremy Ranch is sure to become your new favorite golf course.

Prairie Dunes Country Club
Near Hutchinson, Kansas is a world-renowned course with a style of play that belies its location. Prairie Dunes Country Club, a links-style golf course located in the middle of America, will rival the best tracks of the British Isles. It was opened in 1937, and has been widely considered one the best courses in the world ever since.

Stone Canyon Golf Club
Stone Canyon, situated in the Oro Valley outside of Tuscon, is as stunning as it is creative. “It’s the most remarkable desert site I’ve ever seen,” Jay Morrish, the course designer said. “None of the others are in the same league with Stone Canyon.” Even this ringing endorsement does not do Stone Canyon Club justice. From the rock formations to the picturesque view of the Tortolia Mountains, Stone Canyon is a masterpiece of golf and landscape design.

Pine Canyon Golf Club
Pine Canyon packs the "wow" factor for any golfer who thinks they have seen it all. Opened in 1994 and designed by Jay Morrish, the course is lined with beautiful Ponderosa Pines and dramatic features that are in play throughout the course. It is one of the most exclusive private clubs and golf communities in Arizona.

Royal Troon Golf Club
Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts, Royal Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. Now, you have the chance to experience what many consider to be the most demanding course on the Open Championship rota with E6 CONNECT. The Old Course has hosted the Open Championship 9 times, most recently in 2016.

Sanctuary
Just outside of Denver, Colorado is one of the most exclusive golf courses on the planet. Sanctuary Golf Course was founded and built in 1997 by RE/MAX founder and co-founder, Dave and Gail Liniger. It was designed by Jim Engh and was declared as “The USA’s Best New Private Courses” by Golf Digest when it was opened.

Glenwild Golf Club
Set in a meadow valley north of Park City, Utah, this Tom Fazio-designed mountain course offers an excellent variety of holes and strong Par 3’s that challenge scratch golfers without overwhelming casual players. With dynamic elevation changes, panoramic views of the Wasatch range and far rough that frames holes with native sagebrush, aspen and flowering purple flax, Glenwild Golf Club is a true aesthetic gem.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
Carved out of the slopes of the Coast Mountain range in British Columbia, this magnificent Robert Trent Jones, Jr. masterpiece allows nature to dictate the path without constraints of commercial influence.

I think I'll pass.

I grabbed the base game and played a couple rounds today...  Not too bad, actually...  Nowhere near as good as PG, but remember this is likely a beta.  Remember how underwhelming PG's beta was?

IMHO, that was the biggest mistake the developers made.  They released the game way before it was ready for prime time.  That beta (more like an alpha, really) turned off a whole bunch of potential buyers, except those of us who could look ahead and see the game's potential.  If the developers had gotten more of PG's features going, and gotten the graphics quality more up-to-speed, and maybe raised the system requirements so that the game couldn't be installed at all on a non-gamer PC, the story would likely be a heck of a lot different.

The second PG mistake was...  Way, way too many swing types.  It is practically impossible to find an opponent online that has a similar-enough swing type preference to get a match going that they think is fair.  One type is probably too few, E6, but in the future keep the number of options down to a couple...

Back to E6, if this is "just a beta", then we could really see something awesome in the near future.  But if this is the final other than bug fixes as they are found, it's okay.

The 3-click swing is very hard to master because the downswing is so fast, but... Golf is supposed to be hard.  Graphics, while not top-notch to be sure, are pretty decent and the game runs very smoothly.

E6 will stay on my system and get play, at least occasionally...  Maybe I'll really get into the game and buy the extra courses, but not likely...  And if for some reason PG stops working and support isn't available, it'll serve as a decent fallback.

One thing that many will miss, however, is there is no course designer program.  I found PG's design program far too complicated to build any courses myself, but I enjoy grabbing and playing the new courses as they become available.

Went to Digital Storm and ordered me up a nice gaming machine :)

Intel i3 chip at 3.9G

16 gig DDR4 RAM

GeForce 970 GTX 4gig vid card

240G SSD

1TB HD

Windows 10

It's HERE!!  JNPG runs great with all the bells and whistles at max or close to it...  I still turn 3D render off for the swing, tho.

It's been around as a simulator for a while. They just decided to port it over to the 3-clickers to see how much cash it would draw. I think you're mistaken if you are expecting big improvements down the road.
