Oh well Mike, thank you very much for this pic, it's simply wonderful with an high graphic quality, wow, i felt myself into it for a while;

i'm ready & excited to try PG out but you all PP staff take your right time to build it at the top. YES it is correct.

cheers

Andy

The picture of Crystal Downs is a real life photo btw. Had me going for a while though, thinking Mike had brought his stunning Crystal Downs over from Links, but that was Crystal Pines.

Ok, still no answer to my question about ydgs for your landing areas, hears another one. ( No problem, I know it will be hard to keep up with all the questions ). :)

Do you have to optimize your course as you go?

Do you have to worry about points on each texture?

Do you have a point count limit?

These are thing that are very important to the CA (course architect) for the TW's PC CA..

Thank you

I'm back to work and starting to modify the height. I've attached a picture of the first hole. Dealing with height is as intuitive as Unity as allows. Achieving exact heights is easier with the "paint height" tool, but making exact representations of anything is rather time consuming. The height tools in Unity are very good for creating unique courses, we have more precise means with which to create accurate representations of real courses.

Tonight I came really close to finishing the height modification of the course. I just have a few holes left to do. I started planting on the first hole just to help myself get a better sense of what I want the finished course to look like (uploaded screencap)

In response to shimonko's question from earlier.. That feature is not currently in Course Forge. Luckily the need for scaling in that manner doesn't come up too often, but when all of your greens are too large for example.... it would certainly be a nice feature. As members of the content creation team, Mike and I use Course Forge every day and so we're generally the ones to add to the list of potential features.. So it isn't out of the realm of possibility to be added at a later date.

And in response to Kablammo (this may have already been stated) but CourseForge can use either meters or yards.

Things are coming to life Steve..looking good.  This may be a crazy question, but here goes..what size terrain did you begin with?  In Mike's tutorials he uses predefined terrain sizes based on height maps he imports into Unity/CF.  I am wondering if we start completely from scratch how do we know what size canvas is needed when we create a terrain in Unity?  Hope that isn't a confusing question.

Great work so far Steve. Looking forward to seeing some nice sweeping elevation changes (hills, valleys, ridges) as well as some more subtle undulations to spice things up around the greens etc

Question: The rocks at the waters edge, are they placed individually by hand or painted on as a detail mesh?

Here are some shots of the course with height modification nearly finalized.

WKD, I started with a 2000x2000 terrain. Typically courses range between 2000 and 2500. I chose a smaller terrain because I planned of having my holes fairly close together. The smallest terrain I've used was about 1600x1600 and the largest was 2600x2600 so it really depends on the course.

The rocks are placed by hand. It's important to vary rotations and scales to achieve a realistic result. It's time consuming but worth it.

Thnx for the reply Steve.  Nice pics of your elevation modifications.  Some of your greens have a Tillinghast/Winged Foot look.

I think you picked a pretty good apprentice Mike.    ;)

It's beginning to take shape very nicely Steve.

Course is taking shape Steve, and quickly too. Looking forward to seeing some planting work. With your work progressing as fast as it is this seems to bode well for those hoping CF will indeed be as easy to use as promised, and courses can be as simple or as complex as the user wants to make it.

Thanks for the screenshots of your work, will watch for more in the coming days.

Is everyone sure that it is his first attempt on a course editor?
